The ramparts in Mourão date back to the origins of the kingdom and the Reconquista, when conqueror Alphonse 1st and his templars succeeded in driving the Moors back off the Alentejo plains as far as the Algarve. This property comprising an authentic “monte” or regional farmhouse, with 2.3 ha, is to be found in this medieval, picturesque setting, dotted with vines as well as olive and fruit trees. In addition to a welcoming, functional house, this property includes outbuildings, a garden and a pleasant, outdoor swimming pool, from which it is possible to glimpse Mourão castle and the fortified town of Monsaraz. The estate is also undergoing extension works to add an extra four dwellings. On the horizon, the water of the Alqueva reservoir, Europe’s biggest artificial lake, is an invitation to practice water sports all year round.
