Our opinion
Cabo da Roca was long considered the edge of the known world. Something of that certainty lingers in the air of Sintra, in the way the mountain keeps the ocean at a distance without ever losing sight of it. A kilometre from this headland, a property rebuilt on ancient ruins and restored in 2024 speaks the language of 18th-century azulejos and timber salvaged from a Lisbon house. Five suites, a dining room with a vaulted brick ceiling, a lounge with a fireplace: everything opens onto the terrace and the garden planted with tropical trees, fruit trees and an organic vegetable patch. The swimming pool fits in perfectly. Sintra’s microclimate does what architects cannot: year-round greenery, coolness in summer, light filtered through the forest. The end of the world, but not too far away.
