Our opinion
You don’t choose Redlap House. You simply end up there. The Devon coast has a way of keeping its finest secrets hidden behind its steepest cliffs. Here, the estate reveals itself only to those who know where to look: some 13 hectares shaped as much by the wind as by human hands, gardens that slope down towards the sea until the land gives way, and below, Redlap Cove, a cove accessible only via a private path through the estate’s woodland, or by sea. The main house, the pool and spa complex, the library, the vaulted artist’s studio, the bedrooms, the gallery opening onto Start Bay: every element finds its place without trying to impress. The rest—ponds, vegetable garden, helipad, garage—belong to that category of things one discovers later, and which confirm the whole. Some places exist before we do. This one was waiting.
