Our opinion
This house shuns the spectacular. It turns its back on the sea, which other Greek houses beg to be looked upon. Three wings of whitewashed stone enclose a 900-square-metre courtyard where century-old pine trees grow. The high ceilings breathe. The white plaster walls soften the light rather than reflect it. Five bedrooms are scattered without any hierarchy, as if the house refused to designate a centre. In Kranidi, a town where people actually live, this house is not an investment: it is a way of understanding everyday Greek life.
