Our opinion

Södertälje built its prosperity on two pillars: thermal springs first, industry second. It was as part of this development, at the turn of the 20th century, that Karlhov ceased to be a market garden and became a neighbourhood of villas. A transformation that the façades have absorbed with an elegance that a hundred years have done nothing to diminish. Among them is a villa dating from 1925, with lattice windows and a Mansard roof. The orangery, meanwhile, was built using windows salvaged from a demolished building — a gesture of remembrance as much as of architecture. This is how certain houses stand the test of time. Not by resisting. By choosing.
