Our opinion

Borba grew up surrounded by its marble and its convents, and the Convent of Our Lady of Sorrows has held a special place in that collective memory since 1778. What the centuries have left behind—the bell tower, the chapel, the azulejos, the stucco, the vaults, the paintings, the marble staircases—has not been erased by the restoration work carried out since 2012, but rather extended, as if the place were simply continuing what it had begun. Designated a historic site by the Ministry of Culture, it holds residential and tourist potential commensurate with its history.
