Our opinion
There are some mansions that need no introduction. This is one of them. In the 18th century, Geneva’s great patrician families knew that building was as much a political act as it was an aesthetic one. This château is the most accomplished demonstration of this: the enfilade of five drawing rooms, the wood panelling, the thirteen fireplaces and the grounds that open out onto Mont Blanc as if it were the most natural thing in the world. In 1812, Empress Joséphine was received here. The drawing room that preserves her memory still speaks to what this place has always been: a spot where history chooses to pause. Listed since 1930 and restored since 2007 with the patience that this type of building demands, the château looks out over Mont Salève on one side and Geneva on the other. Between them lie three centuries of elegance that nothing has managed to diminish.
