Our opinion
In the Stockholm archipelago, there are islands where people live and islands that people choose to visit. Oaxen falls into the latter category. Its old limestone quarries, its 19th-century lime kilns – one of which still stands – and the light reflected by the water, which is different here than elsewhere, have forged a character that nothing has managed to erase. On this west-facing shore, a bespoke villa embraces the landscape across its five terraces. The materials are natural, the spaces generous, and the guest house stands independently. Two hundred metres away, a boat mooring opens out onto the entire archipelago. In the evening, the sun sinks into the water in front of the house. Every day, at the same time, as if it were planned.
