In Paris, each district has its own particularities and its own charm: its inhabitants feel like they live in separate villages. But at the heart of this mosaic, there is one place that symbolises "Old Paris" better than any other in the eyes of the world: Le Marais. The guest rooms on offer here are a perfect illustration of this. Just a walk through the entrance gate will convince you: large flagstones, exposed stone walls, beams, an ancient staircase... Facing the courtyard, in complete peace and quiet, the rooms have been renovated and furnished in keeping with their long history. Taking refuge here after visiting all that the surrounding area and beyond have to offer, you will still feel like you are on holiday. Take your time and savour the privilege of staying in one of the capital's landmarks.
My parents moved into this building in the Marais in the 1980s. I've always been very attached to it. That is why my brother and I decided to buy part of it in 2024. This district is steeped in history, with a high concentration of 17th-century town houses. I particularly love the beauty of the streets and the lively atmosphere. The location is ideal; just a quarter of an hour from Place des Vosges and half an hour from Notre-Dame.
The flat is set in a building with typical local architectural features. This ancient building, steeped in history, has a paved courtyard and a remarkable wrought-iron staircase with low wooden steps. The building combines stone, half-timbering and exposed beams. We also discovered that the stone slabs on the floor of the stairwell are carved and may have come from the nearby Palais des Templiers.
The building was built by a notary in 1610. In the 17th century, the district became the preferred place of residence of the Parisian nobility and upper middle classes. It declined after the Revolution. Several communities developed here over the years, including Ashkenazi Jews at the end of the 19th century. It underwent a renaissance in the 1960s, under the impetus of André Malraux, with a programme to safeguard and preserve the district. Today, it is once again a popular and very pleasant place to live, with a vibrant artistic and creative scene and numerous museums and art galleries.
Its location in the Marais, a dynamic district with many creators and designers, gives it an international atmosphere, a cultural dimension and access to an authentic living environment in the centre of Paris. Our rooms are spacious and bright. One of the suites has a fully equipped kitchen, so guests can prepare their own meals if they wish. I'm a historian and guide, and I offer guided tours of Paris.
"La Maison Proust", nestling in the heart of the Marais district, is an excellent option for enjoying breakfast while soaking up the vibrant soul of the Belle Époque salons described in the works of Marcel Proust. For lunch or dinner, the "Les Enfants Rouges" restaurant is a must. As for cultural activities, the Museum of Hunting and Nature, the Carnavalet museum on the history of Paris and the Cognacq-Jay museum are all nearby and well worth a visit.
150 € - 225 € / night
The two rooms, measuring 24 m2 are on the first floor of the building. Each room has a double bed and a bathroom with a toilet. One of the bedrooms has a fully equipped kitchen.
