Some places are naturally full of grace. Leaning against the Petit Luberon, overlooking the Calavon plain, this ancient Provençal citadel is one of these. All you have to do to convince yourself of this is follow the winding streets, let your eyes fall upon the light on the yellow stone, listen to the water flowing from the fountains before reaching the top and contemplating the immensity of the landscape. This is where you'll find the town house, a surprising vestige of a time when the aristocracy chose the village as a holiday resort. The original Italianate architecture has been preserved, with its spaciousness, vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors and large windows. Its charm is fully intact, and is now accessible to all those who, like Dora Maar or Nicolas de Staël in their day, seek grace and beauty.
The Tingry town house sits at the top of the picturesque village of Ménerbes, in the heart of the Grand Luberon, not far from the charming villages of Lacoste and Lourmarin. We were seduced by this place because of its natural beauty, peaceful atmosphere and artistic history. Ménerbes has long been a meeting place for artists. The surrounding area, between Gordes and Bonnieux, is the perfect place to get away from it all and relax, and is a great place to explore the Luberon from.
This elegant 17th-century aristocratic residence was inspired by the architecture of old Italian palazzi. Perched on its hills, it has a breathtaking view of the Luberon. It has a beautiful porch, and the courtyard was once paved with pebbles from the Durance. Its refined Provencal architecture boasts spacious rooms, a monumental stone staircase and large windows offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding vineyards and the Mediterranean garden. The Piedmontese influence of the Laurent family, who built the house, can be seen in the architectural details. The Hôtel de Tingry has been a listed building since 1989.
It was built in the 17th century by Joseph Balthazard des Laurents, whose family, of Piedmontese origin, was one of the most powerful and influential in Avignon. His descendant, Éléonore Pulchérie des Laurents, married Charles Montmorency-Luxembourg, Prince of Tingry, who gave his name to the house. For 13 years, it was the personal residence of Nancy Negley, a major American patron of the arts. The mansion adjoined Dora Maar's house. On her death, Nancy acquired the property and joined the two together to create an artists' residence and preserve the memory of the surrealist artist and photographer who was Picasso's companion and muse.
An aristocratic resort in a dreamlike setting. Residents can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the residence and the superb views of the Luberon massif. Meals can be enjoyed on the outdoor terrace or in the poolhouse next to the swimming pool, while in winter guests can gather around the monumental fireplace in the dining room. The spacious rooms offer exceptional views and the ideal setting for relaxing, reading or writing. The setting encourages creativity. It will nurture the artistic souls of those who come here to recharge their batteries. We exhibit contemporary creations and works.
In Ménerbes, take a stroll through the picturesque narrow streets before visiting the Musée du Tire-Bouchon (corkscrew museum). The "Bistrot le 5" serves tasty Provencal cuisine, while the "Petite Maison" will delight gourmet lovers looking for fine dining in an intimate setting. The "Café de la Fontaine", under its ancient plane trees, is the perfect place to enjoy market cuisine. The village of Lacoste is well worth a visit for its castle and panoramic views. In Gordes, one of France's most beautiful villages, craftspeople invite visitors to discover their local know-how. The Jardin de l'abbaye de Sénanque is a haven of tranquillity where the lavender fields add a magical touch to the experience. The Michelin-starred "Le Mas des Herbes Blanches" offers an exceptional culinary experience with local produce.
