Protected from the rest of the world by thick foliage, the granite and slate manor house, “Rulianec” looks out over the Bay of Douarnenez from its headland. It seems as if there is nothing separating it from the ocean, whose changing moods can be admired at different times of the day and in different seasons from the terrace, adjoining swimming pool or certain rooms with wide views of the horizon. Renovated while respecting its history, the house has a high standard of modern comforts, alongside a few retro touches in the materials and furnishings. The weather will be the only determinant of whether you choose to play on the beaches below, explore the coastal paths or discover the inland areas.
We were looking for a family home by the sea with a pleasant climate. We fell in love with this manor house perched high above the Iroise Sea.
The house was designed by the architect Chabal. He built several remarkable homes in Brittany, inspired by his many travels, particularly in India. Rulianec is not a typical Breton house, but it has its own distinctive style.
Rulianec was commissioned by Monsieur Heurteau, a wealthy industrialist who had made his fortune in the railways in the early 19th century. The manor had always belonged to the same family until we were lucky enough to acquire it at the end of 2015. Rulianec was occupied by the German air force during the Second World War, and there are still two listed bunkers on the site.
We offer an exceptional, timeless stay set between the magnificent sea and sky on the Crozon peninsula, at the western end of the Armorique Regional Nature Park. Situated on a rocky peak, this property is an idyllic setting for a large family or a group of friends. It has around 700 m2 of living space and 14 bedrooms. The breath-taking ocean views, like a living postcard, are the permanent backdrop to your stay. Two large sandy beaches are easily accessible directly from the property, one of which is accessed from a private road. The Guardian newspaper ranked Morgat beach as the 14th most beautiful beach in the world.
The peninsula itself! Walk the coastline, discover the Tas de Pois and the Pointe de Dinan. The nature puts on a magical show all year round. You can also discover the coastline from the water on kayaks. Olivier Latin, from the Mogat nautical centre, can organise sunrise outings to admire the seabed, and even enter the Grotte de l'Autel. Visit Camaret-sur-Mer, its little chapel by the sea, Notre-Dame de Rocamadour and the Vauban tower. The old fishing villages of Kéravel, Kerroux and Kergonan look like picture postcards, with their charming stone houses and blue shutters. Sailing in the Bay of Douarnenez. We have a mooring point available to our guests at the port of Morgat. "Thé à l'Ouest”, a boutique tearoom at the entrance to Morgat, serves delicious English-style brunches, excellent colourful salads and scrumptious desserts.
Rulianec can be rented out for filming and photo shoots. There are 14 bedrooms available on site, so a film crew can sleep on site or in nearby hotels.
