Our opinion

We can only guess that there is a house behind the majestic gate at the entrance to the property built on the plains in the south of Loiret, as it is hidden behind its grounds and woods. Its immaculate silhouette bears witness to a time when symmetry and references to the classical era were the order of the day for those who built estates to match their ambitions in the first half of the 19th century. Renovated and decorated with meticulous attention to detail, Sainjoncs has all the trappings of an elegant, comfortable country residence that you can call your own for the time of your stay at just two hours away from Paris. On the borders of the Cher, Yonne and Nièvre departments, Sainjoncs is the ideal location for curious minds keen to discover these areas and their rich history.

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

We were immediately captivated by the château and the beauty of its natural surroundings when we visited it. The south of the Loiret is full of rolling green countryside, but it's also a region that is rich in history.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The property is set in 30 hectares of countryside, including two forests. It is a small 19th century château in the Directoire style, with two floors and with nine bays of double-hung cross windows. The central part is flanked by two wings in the same architectural style and height as the main part. The building is topped by a slate roof. The château is completed by two outbuildings.

What is its history ?

Under the Ancien Régime, Sainjoncs was a large tenant farm belonging to Claude Frappier, an upper-class man from Bonny in 1740. In the early 19th century, Jacques-Alexis de La Jolive lived and died there in 1823. It was the next owners, the Saint-Maurice family, who built the fine classical-style complex in the 1830s that can be admired today. Graceful archways extending from the pedimented façade shelter a fresh interior garden full of flowers.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

The Château des Sainjoncs offers guests a complete change of scenery in a unique setting. With 30 hectares of fully enclosed grounds planted with century-old trees and two forests, it is the perfect place to recharge your batteries in unspoilt natural surroundings. It is perfectly suited to small family gatherings or get-togethers of groups of friends. A large swimming pool provides the perfect place to relax and unwind. Inside, the château is cosy, just like a large family home. The decor has been carefully thought-out, using quality materials such as oak parquet flooring, marble and toile de Jouy patterns.

Places you would personally recommend

A visit to the Briare canal bridge built by Gustave Eiffel provides a magnificent view over the Loire. A trip to Sancerre and Chavignol. Dinner at the Clos des Vignerons in Ousson-sur-Loire or L'ardoise du marché in Boullerets. For wine lovers, a visit to the Clément cellars in Menetou-Salon, with lunch in the typical "C'heu l'Zib" restaurant. Visit the Château de Saint-Fargeau, often mentioned by Jean d'Ormesson, with its sound and light shows on Friday and Saturday evenings in July and August.
