This property comes with a beautiful story: that of a simple cabin, built at the water's edge to serve the needs of the hard work carried out here, which has now become a large and beautiful house dedicated to rest and contemplation. Whilst the passing of time can often lead to ruin, it has produced a small miracle here, as though the Corsica of everyone's dreams was embodied in its entirety by the place. The house features a rectangular base, two floors that were added to expand the place and widen the views, a curtain of greenery for privacy, a beach and the hypnotic waters of the clear, sparkling sea. Inside, curved lines, white walls, raw wood, tiled floors, and the windows overlooking the sea, like the portholes of a ship, will be no doubt convince guests to jump on board immediately and leave everything else behind.
Although our parents' families have originated from La Rocca in southern Corsica for many generations, they decided to drop anchor in the Gulf of Ajaccio when they discovered a small fisherman's cabin hidden from the eyes of the world in the heart of a sandy, granite cove. They moved heaven and earth to buy it, and over the years this little cabin has grown with the family.
Surrounded by lush greenery and stood right at the edge of the water like a boat anchored at its home port, the house and its terrace overlooking the sea enjoy views of the Mediterranean and an everchanging landscape. The colour palette is endless, and the seabed can be seen from the windows of the bedrooms on the second floor. Lulled by the lapping of the sea, naps are peaceful here. Our mother dreamed of adorning this building with a colour that blended into that of the beach. To fulfil her wish, the craftsmen mixed the sand from the shore with the exterior coatings, thus giving the property the appearance of a real pink sand house.
The property is located within the municipality of Grosseto Prugna, on a plot of land formerly known as I Vigni (meaning "the vines"). This inland village extends to the southern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, and Porticcio (meaning "small port") is one of its hamlets. This fishing cabin built in the 20th century housed a pointu so old that it could no longer sail. Fishing nets, preserved swordfish heads, pearls, and gireliers had been left here and were used to create authentic decorations for the walls. In the 1970s, our parents expanded the building by adding two more floors that brought space and comfort to the whole family. Three generations of our family have lived here and we are expecting the fourth.
The house is located just twenty minutes from Napoleon Bonaparte airport and thirty minutes from the imperial city of Ajaccio. Thanks to its unique location in a cove surrounded by water and greenery, it nevertheless offers guests the chance to live like a real Robinson Crusoe whilst also being at the heart of a famous seaside resort. The five kayaks made available allow those who come to stay with us to watch the sun set over the Sanguinaires Islands with family. The Capitello and Isolella towers are also within easy reach. From December to April, guests can gather sea urchins in the cove and make delicious meals with them. After enjoying the sea, and if it takes their fancy, we are happy to spend a day showing our guests around the authentic region of La Rocca, where we were born. Through a real deep dive into Corsica, they will be able to explore our village that was twice raided by the Moors with us, visit the studio of the family painter in an 18th century house, and visit the family mill (currently being restored) which features an eco-museum. We can also organise a refreshing afternoon in the Coti Chiavari forest known for its majestic eucalyptus trees and its penitentiary.
If stopping for food, guests can reach the famous gastronomic restaurant L'arbousier at the Hôtel du Maquis in five minutes on foot or by kayak. On the heights of Porticcio, the Quilici family serves tasty traditional cuisine. Five kilometres from the village, the Rizzanese river is a good spot for a refreshing swim in the waterfalls. By reservation, guests can also experience an introduction to sea fishing with a handline for rock fish (wrasse, seabream, red mullet, scorpion fish) followed by preparing their own bouillabaisse at home. Alternatively, they can try trout fishing away from the coast in the heart of the Corsican mountains and discover the island's lakes and rivers.
The whole house, with access to the beach, can be privatised for filming and photo shoots. Accommodation is available in the seven bedrooms.
