Paris has a thousand faces, but in the eyes of the world it is epitomised by just one: Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A stroll here will take you through centuries of history, but living here for a week or a weekend means being as close as possible to the beating heart of the capital. Between the boulevard and the Seine, each street tells the story of the artistic, literary and intellectual saga of the City of Light. Behind the façade of the 17th arrondissement building, the apartment unfolds like a magic circle, where a taste for art and a certain savoir-vivre are expressed in unison with this famous district of Paris.
Because the apartment is located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, a lively, elegant and fun district with many art galleries. The Louvre, Notre-Dame and the Pantheon are all less than ten minutes' walk away. The Luxembourg Gardens are at one end of the street, with the Seine and the Institut de France at the other.
The building dates back to the 17th century and its façade is listed. The main staircase caught the eye of painter Sam Safran, who painted it in every way imaginable. The first-floor apartment revolves around a small private garden, giving occupants the feeling of being in a house.
In a street steeped in history, the apartment also has a more modest history. It once belonged to Melina Mercouri, actress and then Greek Minister of Culture, and the building has long held the memory of the parties she used to throw in the small garden, without worrying too much about the peace and quiet of her neighbours.
The apartment is very centrally located and offers the opportunity to visit Paris on foot. It is decorated with unique pieces by famous designers, Ron Arad, Danny Lane, Ingo Maurer and André Dubreuil, as well as a forest of ancient totem poles from the Sunda Islands that take you travelling while still in Paris.
There are countless restaurants within easy reach. "Il Vicolo”, on rue Mazarine, is quiet and delicious if you like Italian food. The "Écume des pages” bookshop is one of the best stocked and most accessible. "Down Town” is perhaps the most renowned gallery for design.
The spectacular, modern apartment, set in an ancient location, provides an ideal setting for filming and location shoots.
