If you were to compile a list of everything that makes a place irresistible, it would seem utterly unattainable. But if it took shape before your eyes, you would recognise it immediately. The Convent of Pozzo almost certainly embodies such a list. Perched on a hilltop, it calmly surveys the surrounding relief and offers views of the open sea merging with the sky. A strong and radiant presence remains from the property's monastic origins, inspired by both the "realities from above" and the beauty of the surrounding nature. The property's simplicity, however, is its most striking feature. Skilfully cultivated for centuries by the same family, they added the necessities to beautify the place without tarnishing its soul. Everything is flawless, not even the slightest hint of a false note seems able to break this perfect harmony.
A career change doubled with a return to our origins. After ten years working in the fashion industry in Paris, we decided to leave the tribulations of the capital to take over a family property of great rarity and offer our family a life closer to nature. Today, I passionately preserve the authentic charm of this family home (as my grandparents and great-grandparents did before me) to the delight of my guests and family. I never imagined we would host so many visitors when we first opened the doors to the public.
The Pozzo Convent is an authentic 15th century building. It was once a Capuchin monk monastery, one can easily imagine the life of the twelve monks that lived here. Some of the rooms (former cells) still have their original size and the doors are vintage. Imagine walking down the "monks" corridor with three hundred year old tiling beneath your feet. The former refectory is now a comfortable living room, it features a depiction of The Last Supper measuring five metres by two that dates back to the 17th century, as well as the inscription "sin on es satis memento paubertatis" (if you are not satisfied, remember poverty). The Capuchins were a mendicant order after all. Other special features include a large stone gong of great rarity and the original pendulum. If you want to know more you will have to come and see for yourself!
Just after the French Revolution, the monks residing at the convent were asked to leave. Having grown attached to property, they asked a devout family in the area to settle here for fear that it would be looted. In 1796, this same family bought it for a small sum. It has since remained in the same family, our family, which has been working for seven generations to preserve its authentic charm. Endless memories, photos and objects transport us through time. If we must remember one thing from history, it is that this house has been loved and cherished more than anything.
Since our installation in 2014, we have taken the path of the 7 generations that precede us and we work with passion to inscribe the convent in its time; It is now a committed, eco-responsible and conscious place where we offer the experience of an authentic moment of life, in a relaxed and refined atmosphere. The convent of Pozzo is also a convivial and generous table. Everything here is homemade with fresh, organic, locavore ingredients or from the magnificent permaculture garden located behind the pool, with the added bonus of free-range chicken eggs on request! We cook with family recipes, Corsican and Mediterranean cuisine of great simplicity, colour, flavour. The convent is located at the entrance to Cap Corse where the sun rises above the east coast, the air is fresh three hundred metres above sea level and it is never too hot or too cold. What makes this convent so special is that the privatisation of the property is accompanied by a full range of services such as breakfasts, meals, a concierge, and farm eggs on request! It is the ideal place to meet with family or friends.
Ten minutes away is Erbalunga, a small village and a haven for summer evenings. It is an adorable fishing port where there is a wide choice of restaurants, some offering local specialities and seafood. In Murato, the farm de Campo offers a Corsican culinary experience of rare authenticity. A family cuisine, generous, without fuss and more traditional, prepared with seasonal and raw products. Lodu beach, a cove hidden in the Agriates desert with a thousand treasures, and the Lodu cabin, a hut like no other which offers a minimalist and simple menu, fresh products, friendly and eco-committed team. The tour of Cap Corse and its unique road, the D80, which circles it in one hundred and thirty kilometers, to experience an eternal Corsica. Enjoy a welcome stopover among the cows, on the wild beaches of Barcaggio and Tollare, Finistère of Corsica. In the village of Silgaggia, visit the distillery of Hélène and Laurent Filippi who produce pure organic essential oils and Intimu, a collection of 100% natural cosmetic care.
Choosing the convent and its gardens for a production does not limit you to one choice of decor, there is a multitude of options. Access and parking are easy. The town and the owners offer a peaceful working environment.
