Buried beneath greenery, all that can be seen of the house from a distance is its roof. What lies behind this screen of trees, flowers and climbing plants? From the garden, the view opens wide to the sky and the meandering Seine, while the house seems to have chosen to retreat into the half-light, away from the world and even nature’s fine show. But it isn't so! The staging is deceptive. On entering the house, visitors are immediately hit by the light, which pours into the rooms through the many windows that were barely visible until then. A cheerful atmosphere dispels the initial impression, and visitors are immediately inspired to wander through the rooms and adopt the motto: "To live happily, live hidden".
For the sheer charm of the place. For the uninterrupted views over the Seine, the exuberant natural surroundings, the spaciousness of the house and the calm of the setting, ideal for rest and contemplation. Located in Normandy in the Boucles de la Seine regional park, on the edge of the forest and 150 kilometres from Paris - all the conditions were right for us.
It is a charming Anglo-Norman-style villa. Rectangular shaped, with a wing set at right angles, it is two storeys’ high. The five-sided Normandy flat tile roof features three dormers and a large roof dormer. Two Normandy-style roof sides overhang a balcony and two windows. The facades feature a number of windows and French windows topped with oak lintels. Along the south-east-facing facade, the villa is bordered by a vast stone-paved terrace that links the house, which opens onto the Seine, and the garden. A monumental fireplace from a ruined Norman manor house adorns one wall of the living room. The jambs are ashlar, the lintel is oak and the hood is brick, laid out in a fishbone pattern and topped with a sawtooth frieze.
This villa was designed by the town's former doctor. An art and music lover, he chose to create a stylish residence in the immediate vicinity of the city, yet secluded from the world: overlooking it, yet away from the hustle and bustle.
A place to live away from the noise of the world. Situated at the confluence of the Austreberthe and Seine rivers, the house is perched high above the small town of Duclair. The site is peaceful and noise-free. The terrace lends itself to contemplation of the Norman skies. The unobstructed views of the river and surrounding countryside are breath-taking. A dazzling silk tree spreads out its branches to watch over its guests. Then there is the discreet splash of a waterfall flowing into a pool surrounded by exuberant vegetation. The property has 230 m2 of living space with the reception rooms, kitchen and one bedroom on the ground floor. The garden covers almost 6 000 m2 and boasts an abundance of vegetation, including fig trees, buddleia, gingko biloba, bamboo, hydrangea, hazel trees and numerous beds of shrubs.
“Le Parc" restaurant in Duclair, on the banks of the Seine. The charm of Jumièges, just a few kilometres away, home to the ruins of the legendary ancient abbey. The Trait Maulévrier state-owned forest stretches over 3 000 hectares along the right bank of the Seine, in the Boucles de la Seine Regional Nature Park. In the immediate vicinity of the house, it is full of steep hillsides, woodland, meadows, picturesque villages, valleys and dales, and can be explored on foot or by bike.
Professionals have access to the entire house and the 6 000 m2 garden. A large single-storey terrace provides uninterrupted views over the Seine and the surrounding area. There are five bedrooms available on site. The lounge, small lounge, dining room and entrance hall form an ensemble of almost 70 m2, with large spaces and ceilings over six metres’ high.
