With many transformations over the centuries, Wagnée's residents have long considered it to be a family home intended to follow changes in lifestyle and architectural tastes. By extending the spirit of hospitality that permeates the property, the creation of a gîte in the oldest wing was the final step. Surrounded by an English-style park and unspoiled nature, the tall silhouette of brick and sandstone is almost intimidating. But such appearances are soon forgotten when all the amenities on offer are taken into account. With a combination of old materials and contemporary renovation, they exude a warm and colourful atmosphere. The joys of a stay with family or friends are guaranteed here, and without moderation!
In 2013, I took over this family home which I have always lived in. For more than two centuries, each generation has adapted the building and park to the necessities of the times. We followed suit by starting on important works in October 2016.
The Château de Wagnée stands in the middle of a park (redeveloped at the end of the 19th century) which has the general appearance of an English-style park. The chateau features a neo-classical south façade and an early 17th century north façade overlooking a pond and the surrounding countryside. One of the house's most unique features is the large collection of ceramics painted by my great-grandfather on display.
It is a stately chateau constructed around an old tower that is most probably of medieval origin. In 1611, Jean de Berlo Brus built a large quadrilateral surrounded by four towers that encompassed the original tower. The chateau was then subject to various modifications throughout the centuries, but was only sold once throughout its history in 1768.
A chateau that has maintained its charm and roots, one wing of which has been fitted out to welcome guests with a combination of modern comforts and tradition. A vast rural landscape and the union of a historical building, a beautifully preserved natural environment and a family spirit. An exhibition centred around a historical topic is soon to be added to the list during the summer months.
The Sigoji chocolates in Ciney are not to be missed - the beans are imported directly from Cameroon by the chocolate maker. The Stée farm offers a variety of excellent organic products including meats, cheeses and vegetables. The Vrai Condroz boasts a gently undulating landscape dotted with unspoiled villages, numerous chateaus and large farms such as Ossogne, Flostoy and Les Avins, Barvaux-Condroz. The Château de Waleffe is worth a visit for its 18th century interior décor. The Byzantine rite Catholic services at the Abbey of Chevetogne are also incredibly beautiful.

The gîte is unique in the sense that it offers a variety of spaces spread across four floors. It has three living rooms and a large kitchen/dining room. Four of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms with a toilet and the other two have one to share. One bedroom can be set up as a dormitory for six children or as a bedroom for a couple. The old stable houses a relaxation room equipped with a ping-pong table and a table football.
