At the junction of two small country roads lined with vines as far as the eye can see and sheltered by its walled grounds, you wouldn't know that the Mas de Favierette was there unless you were local. You have a feeling of being somewhat privileged when you arrive here, as the stone buildings forming a sort of hamlet around an inner courtyard are revealed beneath the thick and varied shade. It is like Provence in condensed form with its colours, light and scents, the ochre of its walls, its canal tiles, the sound of the cicadas and the fresh water of its swimming pool. A stay here is pure bliss. Whether you visit as a couple or as a group, there's something for everyone, from relaxation to discovery.
In the Covid period, we took a deep look at our lifestyle. We felt a strong desire to live in an environment steeped in sunshine, nature and gentleness. The Gard, with its lush green landscapes and sunny climate, was perfect for us. The presence of four of France's most beautiful villages in the vicinity added an undeniable cultural and historical appeal. We chose to settle between these four villages and the Duchy of Uzès, which embody the charm and typical features of the region. As lovers of old stone buildings, the choice of an old farmhouse was obvious. By choosing to settle in the South of France, we found the ideal setting to lead a more balanced and fulfilling life.
The farmhouse reflects the traditional architectural style of the region, with thick stone walls designed to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. The roofs are covered in typical southern French canal tiles, with exposed wooden beams inside. The farmhouse is spread over several levels, with vaulted rooms on the ground floor that were once used as cellars and storage areas for wine and silk. The pool has been designed in the spirit of a traditional pool, respecting the historic setting and authentic features of the site. The house faces south, turning its back on the Mistral wind to take full advantage of the sunny climate and enjoy the gentle local lifestyle.
The house dates back to the end of the 18th century and is believed to have been built on the remains of an ancient Roman thermal bath. Originally, the farmhouse was on a small farm where various agricultural activities were carried out. A small number of cattle were reared here, mulberry trees were grown for silk production, and wine-growing was carried out, a tradition that is still present in the region.
Our farmhouse is nestled at the crossroads between the charming villages of Provence and the breathtaking panoramas of the Ardèche. It offers an ideal base from which to explore the cultural and natural riches of the region, while enjoying the comfort and chic, bohemian charm of a building where every stone tells a story. In this soothing, energising setting, surrounded by nature, we organise themed retreats, yoga and cooking courses, either on our own or together with selected partners who share our values and our interest in people.
The Château de Montcaud with its two restaurants, the "Bistrot de Montcaud" and "Le Cèdre de Montcaud", awarded a Michelin star. In La Roque-sur-Cèze, one of the most beautiful villages in the Gard, the "Cèze Grand Rue" offers tasty, delicious and hearty dishes made with fresh seasonal produce. "Le Mas du Bélier" for lovers of mature meats and Breton blue lobsters. In Saint-Alexandre, "Le Bienheureux", for authentic and gourmet food. "La Frigoulette" is an excellent open-air bar on the banks of the Cèze. "Glaces et Délices" in Goudargues serves ice creams and sorbets made from natural, organic ingredients. The farmhouse is surrounded by biodynamic vineyards, and we recommend Château de Bastet.
