In a landscape filled with forests, lakes, moors and heather, Sologne is home to many houses that together retrace a large part of France's history. Among them is a little gem that shines with a unique brilliance. Although this small pavilion was intended to defend its chateau, it is an architectural marvel in its own right, placed above the moat as if to better emphasise its elegant silhouette. From a distant past, the pavilion has kept the finest of materials, to which perfectly adjusted decorative elements and comforts have been added. In the calm of the surrounding park, visitors will find themselves so warmly welcomed that they may no longer feel like venturing into the surroundings, which are nevertheless full of attractions.
Sologne combines its game potential with a well-preserved natural environment in a 'Zone Natura 2000' just an hour and a half from Paris. The proximity of the Loire with its uniquely lit skies and remarkable towns (Beaugency, Meung-sur-Loire, Tavers) opens up opportunities for walks along the river. These qualities had not escaped my parents who settled here more than half a century ago. My wife and I took over the estate and decided to settle here as our main residence to enjoy the tranquillity, nature and charm of the place and also to share it. Whether strolling in the forests, around the lakes or through the typical Solognot villages, city dwellers in search of greenery are guaranteed a wonderful change of scenery.
The house which became the Tourelle-Ligny gîte was one of the chateau's defensive buildings. The chateau is one of very few from the 16th century in Sologne that was not denatured under Napoleon III. With remarkable elegance and harmony, it was built in small bricks and stones with high slate roofs on a model designed by Jacques I Androuet du Cerceau. The salmon-coloured facades, which are reflected in the moat and stand out against the green of the park, add a typically French air to the place.
Originally a small fortress established on the Cosson river which was the border of the Duchy of Orléans and the County of Blois, the chateau was besieged and reconstructed several times. In the middle of the 16th century, it was rebuilt on a larger scale for a bourgeois family of cloth merchants from Orléans. It was then inhabited by notables, including royal officers, a cousin of Madame de Pompadour, one of Marie-Antoinette's architects and the last chaplain of King Louis XVI.
The property exudes an incredible harmony because the beauty of the architecture matches the quality of the water features (including moats, and stream over one kilometre long) and the majesty of the park filled with trees over a hundred years old. We offer those who come to stay with us the chance to experience moments of rejuvenation. Our guests enjoy a terrace overlooking the moat for outdoor meals, walks in the park, bike rides on the surrounding paths, and even the Loire for those who are feeling a bit daring.
The region is full of small local producers that sell honey, cheese, asparagus, strawberries, and local wines that can be found in the markets of Meung-sur-Loire and Beaugency. Thanks to the remarkable architectural heritage of these small towns, it is a pleasure to stroll around before eating at César et Firmin or A La Maison (where lunch under the arbour in the garden is sheer bliss). In the traditional Solognot village of Chaumont-sur-Tharonne, the KM 41 tapas bar and decoration shop is a must.

La Tourelle-Ligny is a single-storey private house on the main courtyard. It consists of a large 35m² living area with a fitted kitchen, French ceilings, old terracotta tiles and a fireplace. It is lit from the south and west by four windows overlooking the moats and the park. The master bedroom, on the east side, has a large bed and a view of the garden. The other bedroom, facing west, is equipped with two beds and has a view of the moat and the lawn. A shower room with a toilet completes the almost 60m² ensemble.
