When thinking of Burgundy, the vineyards of Chablis and Cistercian architecture will always come to mind. The Château de la Resle offers these Burgundy classics, and much, much more. It is a unique property in more ways than one and the smallest Design Hotels™ establishment in the world. Embellished with a collection of remarkable art, La Resle knows exactly how to enchant its guests and is second to none. On the other side of the classical and neat exteriors, the chateau’s owners have given free rein to their desires. They have played boldly with traditions and gambled with sprinklings of creativity, particularly in the bedrooms which are full of eye-catching objects to stir your curiosity. The generously sized rooms were designed to match the spirit of the chateau and finished with comfort in mind. Ideally equipped with a gourmet restaurant and spa, the Chateau reveals surprise after surprise and leads happy guests, hedonists and aesthetes from one discovery to another.
We originally moved here from the Netherlands for work; it didn't take long for our love of old architecture and nature to catch up with us. We instantly fell for this chateau that was in desperate need of restoration.
Each period has left its mark. The caretaker's house and the dovecote are from the 17th century, while the chateau itself was partially rebuilt in the 19th century along with a farmhouse, a barn and an orangery. Nevertheless, it has retained many features from different periods, such as the paving, the fireplaces, the parquet floors and the woodwork.
On the whole, it is the rather classic story of a provincial chateau passing from one generation to the next until the less profitable land ends up being surrendered along with the property. This is how Resle became the second home of a middle-class Parisian family in the sixties.
The opportunity to experience an authentic chateau that will delight lovers of such properties. Above all, guests will discover the contemporary world that we have created here with modern restorations and a large collection of art and design that we have scattered around the chateau and gardens.
Having lived in the region for more than twelve years, we know the best winegrowers and restaurants in the area. After searching far and wide, we know everything from the most exceptional attractions and the best markets to the most beautiful hikes and roads.
