Hidden behind long facades with blind walls, this former farm gives nothing away on first glance. Its strength and solidity nonetheless hint at a history of hard work during days gone by when wealth came directly from working the land. From the Middle Ages when it was created, the property has preserved a long-term vision whilst also taking a huge leap into the future. From the inner courtyard where multiple buildings are assembled together, nothing is yet visible and guests must venture inside. Once there, a contemporary spirit takes centre stage and the hotel's comfortable rooms and bedrooms present themselves, decorated in a precise yet modest style. With many services and amenities on offer, the Indrani Lodge is in keeping with the present day but follows its own golden rule: strive for autonomy while respecting the land and the environment. Stays here are peppered with a special flavour, that of a desirable future.
We were looking for a timeless place and very quickly fell in love with this Brabant farmhouse. Far from pollution and the city, but at the centre of everything. Its five hectares offer exceptional biodiversity and the perfect calm for recharging your batteries.
It is a fenced quadrangle farm, typical of the Walloon Brabant landscapes in the Middle Ages. These farms were isolated by their surrounding land or, as is the case here, located in the heart of the villages. Their origins are religious or seigniorial. The landowners established their residence at these properties which would serve as both homes and agricultural units. The quadrangular shape with a circulation plan was designed to limit the distances between buildings and to allow optimal direction of all the activities. The ensemble is organised around a central courtyard and can only be viewed from the inside. The courtyard connects the different parts of the farm. The paths are paved and outline the circulation of use. Built in the 15th century, the property is a collection of original stone and brick buildings. A large part of the building, including the authentic historic vaults, was preserved during renovations. We have also integrated modern touches that blend perfectly with the older features and remain respectful of the environment and sustainable development.
The property is the former farmhouse of the village of Loupoigne's historic castle which dates back to the Middle Ages. The post office, the church and the farm survived all of the wars. The farm also served as a prison after Napoleon's defeats. We meticulously restored it over a period of three years to transform it into a unique, hybrid, ecological place with respect for its history and identity.
We offer a real countryside well-being retreat that is environmentally responsible. A deep ecological commitment is inscribed in the hotel's DNA. We respect biodiversity, favour local supply channels, and have a biomass power plant and solar panels, all of which allows us to be autonomous for up to 70% of our energy consumption. No crop protection agents enter the lodge! From the choice of wines to the cleaning products, the energy used, and the beauty products, everything is ecological. Our restaurant, Elements, offers surprise menus which are constantly renewed according to what has been harvested from the garden and the 100% organic vegetable garden, and which herbs, flowers, fruits, oils and infusions have been cultivated in permaculture. Around 75% of our vegetables travel less than 150 metres before reaching your plate. Petits Eléments, our small twenty-seat bar, shares the same values!
Walks along the Dyle river, passing by the source, the church of Loupoigne, and the chateau of Houtain-le-Val. Even if better known to the general public, it is impossible to tire of the Villers abbey which is very close by. A real jewel of our Brabant heritage, it was founded in 1146 and attached to the order of Cîteaux. It is well worth a visit as the site is absolutely spectacular.
