Sterzing-Vipiteno is a town of two identities, one which embodies its country of birth and another which embodies its region. Though Latin at heart, through Germanic influences and the surrounding mountains the town brings two cultures together. Among the narrow terraced houses that line the streets with multicoloured facades, this property has been cleverly converted into a hotel where guests can enjoy both independence in their apartments and high quality services that make for a comfortable stay. Between its medieval origins and refined contemporary décor, Ida is a perfect match for aesthetes and mountain enthusiasts.
My family has lived in Sterzing-Vipiteno for centuries. I myself grew up here in a town house that was built in around 1400 and has been owned by my family since the 1900s. We opened the VinZenz Winebar and Restaurant on the ground floor of the house in 2010, on the very spot where my grandfather once had a restaurant. More recently, we transformed the property into a small hotel with twelve rooms called the Haus am Turm. Building on this experience, we continued the adventure by restoring a second historic house to create Ida - Historic Town Apartments, which consists of ten serviced holiday apartments.
Historic salons from the Gothic period have been transformed into apartments. Elaborately decorated beams, impressive cross-ribbed vaults, high ceilings, cosy parquet floors, and columns decorated with period frescoes create an old world atmosphere in each room. We have combined tradition with the South Tyrolean flair and a touch of modernity; Gothic architecture, cross vaults, ancient doors and ornate reliefs feature alongside the clear lines of contemporary design.
A listed building dating from the 14th century, the house was home to a family until the early 1970s. A haberdashery was located on the ground floor. The property's namesake, Ida, counted buttons here in her haberdashery until the 1990s. We completely restored it in 2020 by prioritising local workers and the highest quality standards for materials; and by consciously using products and resources that combined comfort, refinement and a responsible approach.
We aim to appeal to refined minds, to those with an interest in design, architecture and listed monuments, and to those who appreciate spending their holidays in an authentic historical atmosphere. Ida enjoys a central location in the historic centre of a small Alpine town and offers a wonderful view of one of the most beautiful boulevards in Tyrol. The house is managed as an ensemble of ten holiday apartments that come with hotel services.
In Vipiteno, try the fresh and still warm Vinschgerle rolls from the bakery opposite. Visit the Tour Douze in the historic old town, and the local mountain, Rosskopf, at the northern end of the pedestrian zone as well as the nearby Zillertal Alps. Hühnerspielhütte, which was a rustic ski area from the 1960s until the end of the 1980s, offers magnificent views of the glaciers. We recommend a trip to the Hühnerspiel Alm to try some authentic local cuisine and enjoy a fantastic view of the Stubai Alps. We are passionate about "slow food" and are always happy to welcome guests at our gourmet restaurant and wine shop VinZenz. Our moto is to "Experience regionality and tradition, and taste it too!".
130 € - 310 € per night
The house has five apartments with surface areas of about 35m² for parties of two, and five large family apartments with surface areas of about 55m² for up to six people. The restaurant and the main house are 60 metres away.
