Each mill has a personality of its own, shaped by the place where it has served (sometimes for centuries) the industrious genius of man. Flanked by two overhanging towers, this one watches over the river like a medieval fortress ready to defend against attacks. In fact, neither the violence of the floods nor abandonment were the reason for this solid "du Gard" structure in shell stone. Now transformed into a large house, the mill is ready to welcome families and friends. Having irrigated the region for so many years, the property reigns over these lands of sun and vineyards with wisdom and tranquillity.
When we made the decision to launch this project, several criteria guided our search for a property - an exceptional environment, indisputable history, a modest size and the possibility of making it an extraordinary place to relax. The first place that met these criteria was the Mill, and so began an incredible obstacle course. The seller did not want to sell, the town did not want to welcome us into the network, the place had been poorly kept, but we liked it so much that we found the energy to overcome all these obstacles. Today it is open and widely acclaimed. Surrounded by immaculate nature and in the shade of century-old plane trees, the Moulin de Pézenas stands majestically at the edge of the river. Close to the vineyards and amongst Aleppo pines, oleander and fig trees, this wild setting is home to a remarkable range of flora and fauna.
A mill right on the banks of the Hérault. In this fortified building, the promontory towers face upstream to disrupt the current. This construction, inherited from medieval military architecture, made it possible to protect the installations from the violence of the river current. The Merimee base demonstrates that "the bases date back to the 14th or 15th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the mill was used for irrigation, with a turbine and a pump".
The Moulin de Pézenas is located in an authentic hamlet in the South of France between Montpellier and Béziers. It stands in the shade of centuries-old plane trees and is one of the last historic mills in Hérault. It was in working condition until 1918 and dates back to the 12th century. The restoration took place between 2014 and 2016; masons, carpenters and roofers worked for almost a year and a half to give it a new lease of life. The work began by restoring the overhangs of the magnificent Italian-style roof. Under the imposing 19th century frame, the 50m2 interior of the mill has been converted into a large family home, although each level is independent. The mill has become an ideal refuge in the heart of some exceptionally well-preserved countryside.
Time stands still here, the property encourages you to relax and enjoy the sounds of the water and surrounding nature. Swimming in the river is a particularly enjoyable activity for sunny days. Inside, the rooms offer unobstructed views of the surrounding vineyards and the river, and the large terrace overlook the rushing water. In this vast house equipped with all the necessary comforts, the purity and the patina of old materials mixes with the originality of the furniture and second-hand objects. To make their stay as pleasant as possible, we offer room service with breakfasts and meals delivered to our guests' doors.
The Cirque de Navacelles is a fabulous natural site. Whilst walking down to the canyon, you pass by a delightful village with several restaurants. The ancient city of Pezenas is full of history and has a protected area of seventeen hectares, one of the oldest in France. There are many architectural and cultural treasures ranging from mansions, the Saint-Jean collegiate church, the Saint Ursule church and the monument of Molière.

The mill has been laid out like a large family home, but each floor can be privatised. Under the large pentagonal framework, the first floor consists of three bedrooms, each with a view of the neighbouring vineyards and the river. On the ground floor, both bedrooms have their own bathroom and a living area, as well as a terrace overlooking the rushing water of the river.
