Once a place of hard work, the old mill and miller's house are now enjoying a peaceful life. Dominated by the keep that once blocked the passage over the Bouzanne, like the many castles and strongholds that line the river, the two houses have been restored to a high standard. While respecting the original materials, here and there a few touches of modernity meet today's demands for comfort, creating a soft harmony of pastel colours and spaces that are both warm and intimate. From the bend in the river which cradles the mill, a big family or a group of friends can set off to discover the Boischaut Sud, a region with a rich heritage that is somewhat little-known, and whose wooded hills are a precursor to the foothills of the Massif Central.
The Domaine de Prunget is located in the heart of a generous and authentic natural setting, on the right bank of the Bouzanne, just a few minutes from the charming town of Argenton-sur-Creuse, nicknamed "the Venice of Berry". This location was chosen for its tranquillity, natural beauty and exceptional setting. The region offers total immersion in an unspoilt natural environment with a wealth of history.
The estate is a historic complex dating back to the 11th century. This seigneury was one of the largest in the Argenton-sur-Creuse region, with mills, farmland and a castle, the keep of which still overlooks the property today. The mill and the miller's house, emblematic buildings that have been respectfully restored, are now available to be rented out. The mill, one of twelve on the Bouzanne, has retained its original spirit and is distinguished by its original architecture, while meeting the expectations of an elegant and cosy country house. The miller's house combines modern comfort with historic charm, with light-filled rooms and breathtaking views over the Bouzanne.
The Château de Prunget has always been passed down through inheritance or marriage and has never been sold. The first owner, Everard de Prungé, lived here in 1177. The de Prungé family, whose lineage can be traced back to 1324, was succeeded by the Brilhac, Montjohan, Pons, Pierre-Buffière, Poix, Boisé de Courcenay, Nicolay and d'Armaillé families, whose owners are the descendants. From the 17th century onwards, Prunget was gradually abandoned and the feudal castle, which was austere and uncomfortable, slowly fell into ruin. From 1960 onwards, a vast programme of restoration work began on the keep and surrounding buildings. The current mill, built in 1900, operated until 1968. The recent conversion of the mill into a house and the restoration of the miller's house were carried out with a view to preserving as much as possible of their original spirit and atmosphere.
