It is the fulfilment of a childhood dream, which stems from many visits I made to the châteaux of the Loire every summer with my family when I was a child. My husband and I also shared a desire to build a project focusing on hospitality and tourism. We fell in love with the Château de La Villaine in 2021, which enabled us to begin our adventure.
The architect Labadie designed the château in the mid-19th century, giving it its elegant, harmonious appearance. At the end of the same century, the château acquired a Bollée wind turbine, which was used to supply its water and is now listed. The water tower can still be seen in the park and the wind turbine is open to visitors. The château has been completely renovated to provide an elegant and refined setting, where every detail is inspired by the great masters of the Renaissance and the 18th century.
Situated in the heart of the Indre-et-Loire region, the château stands on the remains of a late 13th-century medieval castle that belonged to the knight Jean de Thais around 1266. The estate still has traces of this past, including a period staircase in the cellars. La Villaine was then owned by the Tours church chapter, and was sold as national property in 1791. In the mid-19th century, it became the property of Maître Arrault, a lawyer in Saumur, who commissioned the architect Labadie to rebuild it. He provided it with modern comforts, including running water, thanks to the construction of the Bollée wind turbine.
Château de La Villaine offers the promise of an enchanted stay for a romantic getaway, a break with family or friends, or a business meeting. Overlooking the Indre and Echandon valleys, two magnificent terraces invite you to gaze out over the surrounding countryside. At dawn or dusk, lucky visitors can spot roe deer or see the slender silhouette of a fox pass by. Exclusive services enhance every stay: a home chef on request or tailor-made massages. The tennis court, ping-pong table and bicycles, combined with a variety of activities such as walks and al fresco dining on the terrace, make the château an exceptional place, where every moment becomes a genuine moment of pleasure and well-being.
In Esvres, a charming little village, there is a Saturday morning market where you can buy excellent local produce, "L'Épicerie Art à Table", where you can enjoy a drink in front of the shop, where Charles offers advice and helps cater to all of your culinary needs. "La Boucherie du Coin", especially for the rillettes d'Esvres, and service with good advice and a smile. "O Bistrot Quai”, next to the station, for succulent steaks. Chef Gaétan Evrard's restaurant, "l'Évidence”, in the pretty neighbouring village of Montbazon, offers a wonderful gastronomic experience. The estate is bordered by a footpath that you can take on foot or by bike to many of the châteaux of the Loire Valley. The Indre and Echandon loops, immediately accessible from the foot of the Bollée wind turbine, have routes of between 2 and 10 km.
The château has three floors of accommodation. The reception rooms, lounge, dining room and small lounge, as well as the kitchen, are on the ground floor. There are two bedrooms on the first floor and three on the second. All of the bedrooms have their own bathroom.
