Having lived in Nardo for a few years, it was during a bike ride through the Galatone countryside that we discovered this house which had been abandoned for several years. We were immediately enchanted by the building which deserved to be restored and lived in again. We brought it back to life by reviving its past splendour and adding all the comforts of the modern day. We also continue the farming that already took place here across four hectares, we replanted olive trees and vineyards and created a whole plantation of fruit trees that produce entirely organic fruits.
It is a medieval tower that has been transformed over time into a noble villa, and enriched with numerous Baroque-style decorations. The facade has been embellished with capitals carved in local “carparo” stone and the interior with various decorations: frescoes, vaults, archways and the family coat of arms. The small wooden doors inside the building nevertheless remain in recognition of the property's original construction in the Middle Ages. Outside, there is a charming fenced citrus garden decorated with columns.
Villa Tafuri was built in the 15th century. A fortified tower, its function was to protect against attacks from the sea. In silence, whipped by the four winds, this building has watched over the huge expanse of surrounding land planted with vineyards and centuries-old olive trees for more than six centuries. It was in the 17th century that it turned away from its defensive function. The family of Tafuri barons transformed it into a magnificent residence, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture.
Villa Tafuri offers a complete change of scenery, far from the crowds of tourists, in a unique setting at the centre of a park teeming with plants and with a private swimming pool. Guests can enjoy fruits and vegetables grown organically by us throughout the year. They will also have the opportunity to try our homemade "Marlo" artisanal soaps. The villa is located between the three baroque cities of Galatone, Galatina and Nardo, allowing for numerous cultural excursions. It is also just a few minutes from the Ionian coast which features famous stretches of white sand and crystal clear sea. We offer guided tours of the eclectic villas of the “Cenate” district in Nardo between the city and the sea, recalling Salento's most prosperous period. Many other activities can be arranged on request: horse riding, boat and bike rental, yoga or cooking classes, olive oil and wine tastings. The services of a private chef on site or private dinners in sumptuous palaces can also be organised.
Il Mignano is a restaurant in a beautiful Baroque palace in the heart of the historic centre of Nardo. It serves fine cuisine. Corallo by the sea in Santa Maria al Bagno serves delicious fish dishes, and Gustavo in Galatone has an original menu that changes every week. Blu Mare is a seafood restaurant in Sant'Isidor that allows you to have lunch with your feet in the water facing the sea where the water is strikingly clear. Schola Sarmenti in Nardo is a spot to buy "great" wine (or taste it on the spot) and enjoy authentic taste experiences through the food and wine culture of Puglia. Finally, the natural park of Porto Selvaggio is home to one of the most important archaeological and prehistoric sites in Europe and the archaeological museum of Nardo.
On the ground floor, the entrance opens onto a large living room with a fireplace and open kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. On the first floor is a small living room with a fireplace serving the other two bedrooms and a very large bathroom.
