The former farm has retained its solid, joined buildings, designed with hard work and large families in mind. But history had other plans for it. Transformed and expanded by a local boy turned architect, it now dominates the surrounding countryside, ready and waiting to make visitors' stays unforgettable. Nothing has been left out in terms of comfort and beauty, from the layout of the rooms, the simple lines, the harmony of the colours, the softness of the lighting, to the clarity of the water. Tuscany will never cease to seduce.
We have returned to our roots after 30 years away! I'm originally from Tuscany. First, as part of my studies, then as part of my career as an architect, I travelled to England, Germany and France, mainly staying in Paris, where I currently work. Now I’m learning to be a farmer. I produce olive oil from ancient olive trees and have planted an orchard.
This former farm is surrounded by just over eight hectares of land. Several of the buildings, which have now been joined together, were built from local stone, some of which has been rendered. The architecture follows the slope of the land, and on the ground floor there are several small steps that follow the various levels and floors. The buildings stand at an altitude of around 240 metres, with a 70-kilometre view over the Tuscan countryside. A 120 m2 terrace offers spectacular views of the olive groves and countryside.
The house was built in 1800 and extended twice, in both 1830 and 1870, to adapt to the demands of farming and the needs of the growing family. I bought the property in 2020 and completely restored it, while nevertheless respecting the building’s soul and history.
The house is in Montalbano, the area where Leonardo da Vinci was born. His birthplace is less than a kilometre away. Here, you can breathe history, peace and tranquillity and nature. The property is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, as this is Chianti country. Nicoletta prepares and serves breakfast on request between 7 am and 10 am. A skilled cook, she can also prepare dinners and give Tuscan cooking lessons to our guests.
Taste the cakes from Gigli patisserie. Devour grilled beef at Pippo's, next to the Leonardo da Vinci Castle and Museum. Visit the "Dianella" wine cellars and enjoy Tuscan and organic cuisine for dinner or lunch. The “Strada dell'olio e del vino del Montalbano Colline di Leonardo” (Montalbano Wine and Olive Oil Trail) is a signposted itinerary throughout the area. Montalbano, a 16 000-hectare hilly region of the Tuscan countryside made famous by Leonardo da Vinci's drawings, is now a popular hiking and cycling destination, with red and white signposted trails throughout the area.
11500 € - 16000 € per week
The property is made up of a main building and a small adjoining house. The ground floor comprises living rooms, a kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. The other six bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom, are on the first and second floors.
