In the middle of the woods, Rocon stands out with its long white facade topped by a slate roof. The outbuildings, once only for the household staff, form a hamlet around it, and the former walled kitchen garden is now home to a swimming pool and lawn. This aristocratic elegance is reflected in the interior, where each room has been carefully decorated. Were the owners' Scottish origins the inspiration behind the deep blue of the dining room and the subtle green of the living room? Everything here is laid out in refined harmony and you can feel a certain way of living that cannot be learned. Now it is shared with guests who will be able to set off from here to discover the countless treasures of the Loire valley.
Our family, of Scottish origin, settled at Château de Rocon in the Loire Valley in 1860. Ten kilometres south of Blois, Rocon is located in an exceptional setting amidst large woods and perched on a steep escarpment in the Val de Cisse. The view is unobstructed and breath-taking. It is a haven of peace and quiet which our family has been very attached to for over 150 years.
Built on older foundations, The Château de Rocon is a 19th-century longitudinal building. The long, plain white facade spans nine bays, is covered by a dormer roof and framed by three square towers. The château overlooks the Val de Cisse on one side, with a large lawn and gardens bordered by outbuildings on the other. To the south, there is a delightful chapel, whose vault was painted by one of our ancestors.
Rocon dates back to the 15th century. Jean des Riches appears as the first known seigneur in 1464, preceding Louis Boudet, silversmith to the House of Orléans, in 1486. At the turn of the following century, in 1602, a family of doctors, Jean 1er Pépin, a King's prosecutor at the Presidential Court of Blois, Jean II and Florimonde Pépin, the widow of Étienne Dufour, lived at Rocon. Their successors include: Joseph Descluseaux, port-manteau and close friend of King Louis XIII from 1624 to 1653, Charles Nicault de Bellegarde, lieutenant of the hunting grounds of the Count of Blois and Jacques Guillomet, director of the King's aids and rights in the Blois Election at the end of the 18th century. Charles and Marie-Agnès de Lauriston bought Rocon in 1860 and gave it its current look. We are the direct descendants of Charles de Lauriston.
Rocon is a very peaceful place that is perfect for relaxing and unwinding without feeling like you are lost out in the middle of nowhere. Rocon is ten kilometres from Blois and seven from Onzain. The setting is elegant and the spaces are open and well-maintained. The swimming pool, tennis court and surrounding woodland offer everyone the chance to enjoy sports or to just relax and meditate.
