Stood in the garden, this house dressed in white stones and topped with red tiles shines with the elegance of the century it was born into. Doors and windows flood the interiors with light and the necessary comforts added during recent renovations do not detract from the harmonious simplicity. A glance at the vast staircase is enough to imagine the vibrant social events and happy receptions that have taken place here. The property has retained its desire to host and make everyone feel comfortable in order to better appreciate all of the Lot's treasures that can be found nearby.
Originally from Aveyron, my in-laws left Paris in the 80s and bought the Château de la Treyne with plans to transform it into a high-end hotel. When it was passed down to us in 2001, we left Paris to take over the management of the chateau which had become a hotel. While looking for our own place to live, we fell in love with the Charterhouse which unfortunately was not for sale at the time. In 2017, the opportunity presented itself again. We bought the house then completely transformed it into a seasonal rental as we had found our forever home.
Built in the 17th century, the Chartreuse de Calès is surrounded by a 1500m2 garden. It is fully enclosed with no other properties overlooking it. The opulent-looking house was built of limestone rubble and covered with flat tiles. Narrow and exposed east-west, the facades have two or three large bay windows per room and the symmetrical arrangement allows them to be flooded with light all day. The porte cochère, assembled from scratch by the owner in the 1970s, gives it the air of a bourgeois home. The stone staircase in the entrance hall was completely redone and extended in the 2000s along with the refurbishment of the second floor.
The Chartreuse de Calès, which is technically a mansion, is located in a small village typical of the Lot. It is surrounded by oaks, truffle trees, goats and sheep. Due to the geographic isolation of Carthusian religious life, certain houses in the south-west of France are also designated as Charterhouses. They are therefore in the countryside and away from the villages. The house has kept all of its charm despite changes over time and multiple owners. We fully restored it with noble materials and kept as close as possible to the original configuration. We now share the house with guests who are just as passionate as us.
A bright, comfortable, quiet and energising house to share memorable moments with family and friends. All of our guests are offered homemade jams upon arrival. A concierge service is available to help them plan their stay.
The Charterhouse is located about ten kilometres from Rocamadour. Do not miss the tour of the fortified mill of Cougnaguet along the way - the flour mill was classified as a Historic Monument in 1925 and is still active. The La Borie d'Imbert farm invites visitors to discover the production of the famous Causses du Quercy goat cheese, Rocamadour AOP. It is also possible to watch a whelping during the winter or autumn holidays. Nearly six hundred kids are born on the farm each year. The Boucle du Moulin du Saut is a 4.2km trail that runs along the bottom of the Alzou canyon and leads to the ruins of the Moulin du Saut, a building built on the cliff in the 18th century. As for restaurants, we would recommend Le Petit Moulin in Martel which charms guests with its bistronomic cuisine, the Le Beau Site bistro in Rocamadour, and the gourmet restaurant at the Château de la Treyne.
4500 € - 7500 € per week

On the first floor, two large suites with their respective bathrooms are equipped with showers, baths and separate toilets. On the last level, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms with baths. All rooms are air conditioned. A little further down, in the park, a heated swimming pool overlooks the hills of Quercy. Parking is available on site. The rental is from Saturday to Saturday.
