La Clairière is full of surprises. Only a keen eye would know it was recently constructed, the look of a family home that has always been stood in this park is utterly convincing. Just a short distance from Paris, the surrounding forest provides an unspoilt setting and the reliefs carry your gaze all the way to the capital, whose outlines you can make out in the distance. The use of old materials ensures an authentic atmosphere that can be savoured in any season. Minds are free to wander and explore this holiday resort that now stands on the footsteps of Queen Hortense and, perhaps, those of Van Gogh who lived nearby.
In a clearing (which was in the heart of the château de Saint-Leu park where Queen Hortense resided) stood a ruin with a magnificent view of the forest and surrounding landscapes. Given the highly historic nature of the place (just metres away are the remains of ponds and fountains from when the queen was here) we were inspired to recreate what could have been a house built at that time. Only the basement reveals that this is a modern house, for the rest of the house only old materials were used: roofs, cornices, terracotta tiles, parquet flooring, carpentry, woodwork. Everything was built in the style of classical architecture.
The property's warm spirit is the result of a judicious balance between antique furniture, bright colours, and old materials. It exudes the charm of an old house because the noble materials such as tomettes, stone, Versailles parquet floors take centre stage.
A house that has always belonged here but has only existed for ten years.
Only thirty minutes from Paris by car, La Clairière invites you to take a breath of fresh air in the countryside. Ideal for trips with family or friends, the house has all the necessary comforts. In winter, our guests enjoy long evenings by the fire, whilst the retro swimming pool surrounded by nature immediately offers a moment of relaxation and a change of scenery on sunny days. The vast park and the proximity to the forest of Montmorency are an opportunity to get some fresh whatever the weather.
We recommend driving to Auvers-sur-Oise where you can explore the Museum of Impressionism, the home of Van Gogh. In Ecouen, the Renaissance Museum has a magnificent variety of collections. The trails of the Montmorency forest are also right on the door step.
