In the heart of the Bandol vineyards, this former 17th-century wine storehouse has been transformed into a bastide used as a holiday home. As is often the case in these southern lands, everything has been designed so that the rooms open out onto nature and the gardens are seen as additional living spaces. At Mas Saint Martin, everything is fluid and ethereal, and there is nothing to obstruct the view. But that doesn't mean you can't feel the warm, intimate atmosphere, with its play of light and colour, combinations of materials and styles, and a multitude of details that enliven and personalise every corner. The same spirit reigns in the gardens, meticulously set out around the swimming pool, boules court and terraces dominated by ancient olive trees. Just a few minutes from the beaches, but in the peace and quiet of the hinterland, you are sure to want to extend your stay here.
My husband is originally from the region. He was born and raised near Toulon and regularly visited his family home in Sanary. In 2018, a house he had known since childhood and passed every day on his way to school came up for sale. We fell in love with it and signed on our first visit.
The bastide is a former 18th-century wine storehouse, with very thick walls and a roof with a triple overhanging cornice, typical of old Provençal farmhouses. The building is set down on the natural surrounding terraces. It is set in the heart of an organic vineyard and a small olive grove with around 50 olive trees. There is a 300 m2 terrace in front of the house. The first floor overlooks the sea.
The original wine storehouse, converted into a farmhouse, belonged to the same family for two centuries before the estate's buildings and land were divided and sold into several plots. The house is located close to a château, which is still surrounded by vines. We know that farmers lived here for many years. The history of the area is thus linked to agriculture, wine-growing and rural Provence.
We offer a Provençal house in the countryside, in a peaceful setting surrounded by vineyards, easily accessible and only ten minutes from the port of Sanary by bike or car. The house is set in a hectare of grounds and has a large 15-metre swimming pool and a Nordic bath. When restoring and decorating the house, we paid particular attention to detail in order to restore its original Provençal soul.
The "Domaine Terre Brune", famous for its rosé that was voted best rosé in the world, offers tours and tastings and serves family-style cuisine in its restaurant "La Table de Terrebrune". "La Petite Cave" in La Cadière-d'Azur, run by a young couple - her a chef, him a sommelier - is a gourmet restaurant offering excellent value for money. Visit "Les Caves Syllazur", a group of around 40 winegrowers. The vintages produced bear the appellations AOP Bandol, AOP Côtes de Provence and IGP Mont Caume. Among them, the “Les Tartanes” range illustrates this expertise. Hire a boat from Sanary harbour and discover the beaches of Portissol, Embiez and Sainte-Croix.
2700 € - 5600 € / week
The house extends over 240 m2. The entrance hall leads to an open-plan kitchen opening onto two lounges: one leading onto the large terrace, the other occupying the former wine storehouse. Upstairs, four double bedrooms, three of which can be converted into single beds, each have an en suite bathroom with toilet. A fifth bathroom and a television room (which can be converted into a sleeping area) complete the ensemble. The minimum rental period for July and August is two weeks.
