Is it possible to stay in an old mountain village and in one of the best-equipped ski resorts at the same time? Yes. From its height atop a granite base, Casa san Bernardo dominates the heart of Les Brévières, with its magnificent new colours that have now turned it into a chalet. While wood and stone are the mainstays of the interior design, the clean, straight lines give the house a contemporary feel. The house is split up into vast rooms where many people can gather together - spaces dedicated to wellbeing and a whole host of bedrooms that hold the promise of happy stays with family or friends. Away from the crowds of holidaymakers, yet close to the slopes, a stay here is a dream come true.
Tignes had already won us over, with its beautiful natural surroundings in the French Alps with some of the world's best skiing conditions, particularly in terms of snow cover. We chose the centre of Tignes-les-Brévières, a picturesque village a little way down the mountain, to be close to all the sports facilities provided by the ski resort (our chalet is just 150 metres from the ski lifts) while enjoying the calm, typical mountainside old village houses and chalets, far from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist locations.
Tignes-les-Brévières, the historic village of the Tignes ski resort, is situated at an altitude of 1550 metres and is very well connected to the rest of the resort, which rises up to 3550 metres and which is located at the gateway to the Vanoise National Park. The architecture is typical of old mountain villages, with old farmhouses and typical stone, wood and roughcast houses with attractive south-facing balconies and slate roofs. The chalet's interior is predominantly built from old wood, with hand-crafted, exposed beams in the main living areas. Each room has unique furnishings, fabrics and bedding.
Casa San Bernando is located right next to the church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens. It was occupied for a long time by the village doctor, before being abandoned following a complicated inheritance, until we restored it to be almost exactly as it was before, in compliance with local town planning regulations. The name "Casa San Bernardo" was chosen to capture the image of the crossing of the Alps, and to pay tribute to the great Alpine passes: the Great St Bernard Pass (Switzerland - Italy), and the Little St Bernard Pass (Italy - Savoie - France), which are on the routes which cross the Alps. Saint-Bernard is also a reminder of the mountain rescue tradition, seeing as this was the former home of the Tignes-les-Brévières doctor.
At Casa San Bernardo, you can enjoy the mountains at any time of year. The house has a room that can be used as a children's playroom during the school holidays, or as a meeting or work room for business meetings, seminars or sports courses. Casa San Bernardo has a wellness area with a sauna, a salt wall, halotherapy, a four-season sensory shower, music therapy, a hammam and a Corian ice cabin with snow flake misting. A large spa with windows completes the package. A home chef can provide a catering service, à la carte and on demand in the evenings or once a week. We can provide our guests with an electric Fiat 500 for local travel.
Picnic with bread from the village bakery, accompanied by some locally-made cheeses and/or salami, available all year round from the "Fromagerie du Lac". Admire the two "Joys", sculptures by French artist Raphaël Laventure, at the top of Palafour and Tovières. In addition to the Tignes/Val d'Isère ski area, discover the Espace San Bernardo - La Rosière/La Thuile ski area with a guide and enjoy a "culinary ski escape" day in the Aosta Valley village of La Thuile. Discover great off-piste skiing with heliskiing. In the summer, the Vanoise National Park offers numerous opportunities for walks and long hikes, with a network of almost 400 kilometres of signposted trails. We highly recommend a visit to the "Ferme des 3 Capucines", an authentic working farm and restaurant serving locally sourced, home-cooked food.
