Perched on a hill, the estate boasts a commanding view of the gardens, the fenced meadows, the pond, and the wooded surroundings below. The Purple Périgord expresses itself in beautiful harmony here, particularly with such careful renovations that have successfully preserved the authenticity of the architecture and highlighted the delicately domesticated nature. The main house has retained a weathered coating on the outside, the movements of an old roof, an outer gallery in wood and stone and, inside, many relics of its centuries-old past. The various accommodations options on offer, all of which provide the upmost comfort, allow couples as well as large families or groups of friends to enjoy a delightful stay in a region filled with endless cultural and heritage riches.
After searching across France and even Europe for the perfect place to bring our project to life, we stumbled upon this part of the Dordogne, known as the Purple Périgord, by chance. We were immediately enchanted by the perfectly preserved landscapes scattered with woods, meadows and vineyards. We were particularly drawn in by the proximity to Bergerac which offers a dynamic and authentic living environment throughout the year.
Surrounded by thirteen hectares of woods and meadows, the estate is made up of a group of buildings including a cellar, a dovecote and a fortified house. Originally, the latter consisted only of two superimposed rooms. The room on the original residential floor, which today forms a parental suite, harbours a stone sink under a niche at the centre and an ogival door which was accessed from the outside. At the end of the 15th century, a long barlong main building was added to the property, the first floor of which is served by an exterior gallery protected by a large overhanging roof that offers a view of the vineyards and the pond. Mullioned windows, freestone window seats, exposed oak beams, and pisé floors offer an extraordinary journey through seven hundred years of history.
The origins of the estate date back to the 14th century. The fortified house stands one hundred metres above the old Roman road linking Périgueux to Bergerac. It was most likely built by a knight during the Lords of Roussille movement. From the 17th to the end of the 20th century, the Lajarthe family occupied the house. In the last third of the 20th century, the residence passed to a branch of the Lajarthe de Maurens family and remained in their hands until the 2000s. We acquired the property in 2020 and renovated each space with the upmost care. Each room has its own identity, combining modernity and authenticity.
Much more than just a charming house, the spirit of Peyrat takes you away from everyday life through experiences filled with meaning and emotion. Guests can enjoy the wellness area, culinary workshops, tending to the animals on the mini-farm, and the vineyards. Each activity on the estate and our family adventure are open to them. In the surroundings, the majestic pines, our beautiful pond, the rose garden and the horses in the meadows showcase this exceptional setting where we ensure all personal and professional events are tailored to our guests.
The Renaissance-style Château de Montréal, completely surrounded by 12th century fortifications and "remarkable" gardens, is located just a few kilometres from the Domaine de Peyrat. The tours are extremely well executed, exciting and fun for all the family. The Théâtre du Roi de Coeur put on outdoor theatre festivals; they travel through rural areas with a wooden stage, straw bales and a guinguette-style refreshment bar. Totally unique and full of talent! Nestled in the heart of the neighbouring village of Queyssac, the Bistro du Presbytère offers a warm and intimate welcome just a stone's throw from the estate. The simple yet gourmet cuisine promises a good time with family or friends. Booking is recommended as they are often crowded.
