From the top of its two towers, it seems to observe the landscape that undulates beautifully all around it. Here, the Tarn takes on an Italian flavour while passionately cultivating its Occitan accent. Château de Soules has long been established on these lands and has undergone many transformations over the years. It is now a large residence, with windows open on all sides, as if in dialogue with the trees in the grounds. But inside, there is a completely different music playing: a luminous, colourful symphony, where Asian-inspired paintings and furnishings meet in an imaginary invitation to travel. Here, visitors will have every opportunity to escape by dreaming as much as through observing the beauty of nature.
This part of the Tarn, which is also famed for looking rather like Tuscany, has a number of exceptional assets, including its proximity to the international airport, its local produce with its wealth of wines and gourmet dishes, and its culture, with internationally renowned buildings such as Albi Cathedral, of course, as well as hiking opportunities which we are particularly fond of.
Château de Soules - which means "sun" in Occitan - is surrounded by oak trees, umbrella pines, fig trees and centuries-old box trees. The estate extends over eight hectares of forest and meadow. The château is in a square shape, covers 460 m2 and is flanked by two square towers with pyramid-shaped roofs at the corners of the west façade. The main façade is set with five arched windows on the first floor. The eight-hectare parkland features a dovecote and a large lake measuring around 5 000 m², with a pontoon and a walkway.
The château foundations, the remains of which are still visible under the slab near the south-east entrance, which is now glazed, date back to the 13th century. A hamlet is shown as "Soules" on the Cassini map from around 1770. The château is shown on the Napoleonic cadastral map of 1826. It belonged to Jean-Baptiste Lacoste-Bagnères, and comprised of two houses with courtyards, linked by a building, a large driveway and a cylindrical dovecote tower set back to the east. The register showing increases and decreases shows a "new building" on plot 916 in 1843, which dates the redevelopment of the château to the mid-19th century.
A haven of peace, a historic building with modern comforts, in a green setting where everyone can find something to their liking. Outside, there are two terraces, one on the kitchen side measuring 70 m2 and the other on the pool side measuring 75 m2, a 15x4 m heated infinity pool and a huge parkland to recharge your batteries in the heart of nature. No-kill fishing is permitted in the lake, adding a touch of adventure to the holiday. For chefs and food lovers, there is a genuine 65 m2 Gaggenau professional kitchen, a great place for enjoying time together.
In the village of Lavaur we particularly like "L'œuf de coq", which serves modern cuisine prepared by young chefs. “La Vigne en foule", a bistronomic restaurant in Gaillac, prepares fresh, seasonal bistro menus every day. Their wine list features almost 300 different wines. Finally, just five minutes from the château, our neighbour "Les délices d'Amélie" produces duck foie gras according to the purest tradition.
