A unique Anglo-Norman villa from the early 20th century
in the Vittel spa park in the Vosges

Our opinion

Situated in the spa park not far from the town centre, the Villa Sainte-Marie bears witness to Vittel's glorious past, with its air of the Belle Époque. Its unusual Anglo-Norman outline and myriad of roof shapes immediately bring back the days when 'high society' came here in their tail-coats, top hats, crinolines and lace dresses to partake of the waters. After decades of neglect, it was recently renovated to provide all modern comforts while scrupulously respecting the original atmosphere using a judicious choice of colours, furnishings and decorative elements. Staying here will give you the delicious feeling of floating between eras, and the pleasure of escaping from everyday life, better than anywhere else.

Why did you settle in this region, in this place and not elsewhere ?

I'm originally from Vittel, which I left many years ago. Motivated by this local family connection, by a passion for heritage and upon the invaluable advice given by my wife, I made a swift decision to buy the villas in Vittel without even visiting them first. The acquisition was based on an approach of “passing on heritage”, with the aim of preserving the interior decor and authenticity of the buildings. We chose to make it a holiday home with à la carte hotel services, in keeping with the interior layout and heritage.

What specific architectural features does your building have ?

The villa, with its roots in Vittel's spa history, was built in 1911 by architect André Collin in an Anglo-Norman style that is quite rare in the region. The exterior architecture features a theatrical setting with half-timbering, slate roofs and elaborate façades, with a stylistic evolution following the spa park. The homogenous, bourgeois interior décor includes mouldings, cornices, stucco work and a full range of classic early 20th-century fireplaces. One particularly remarkable room, a maid's room on the second floor, retains its original brightly coloured wallpaper, which has been protected from direct light for over a century. The villa has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1990.

What is its history ?

The villas’s history is closely linked to the Bouloumié family, who founded Vittel in 1854. Its original function was as a residence for spa doctors, who welcomed a privileged clientèle during the spa season from May to September. The villa, rented to Club Med for many years, was then abandoned for 20 years by an investment fund, with no specific plans. A full diagnosis confirmed that there was no damage. Our project transformed two villas totalling 900 m2, which had been unoccupied for a long time, into a guest house. The opening in July 2025 was made possible by a complete overhaul of the infrastructure in a protected area above the water table.

What can you offer people staying with you ?

The uniqueness of this timelessly charming villa lies in its exceptional location in the heart of a 650-hectare protected spa park, with direct access to Vittel town centre, guaranteeing peace and quiet and close proximity to amenities. We offer serenity and disconnection in an unspoilt setting. The house has the atmosphere of a family home, inviting guests to feel right at home. The immediate surroundings include a 900 m² private garden, providing extra security for children. A hotel service offers great flexibility, with breakfast options, catering packages, a home chef, housekeeping, wellness activities and sports facilities. Station transfers are available via local service providers.

Places you would personally recommend

"La Rotonde", a 1920s building and bistronomic restaurant in the heart of the spa park, serves inventive and refined cuisine. "Les Délices du Parc" is located in the Heudebert pavilion, one of the aediculae in the park named after the brand of dietary products sold there. Today, it serves a wide choice of regional products and a friendly outdoor area where you can enjoy an ice cream, a coffee or a refreshing drink. Vittel is a blend of different architectural styles by big names such as Charles Garnier, Auguste Bluysen and Fernand César. A guided tour is a must! The racecourse, part of which is a listed historic monument, comes to life in summer. While the main attraction remains the races, behind-the-scenes tours, hat contests, workshops and other activities are sure to delight young and old alike.
