The château stands out at the end of a tree-lined driveway dotted with topiary, and immediately makes you want to get closer. Beautifully proportioned, with regular lines underlined by brickwork, it has the tranquil allure of homes designed for comfortable living, but without pretence. It prefers to shine in a different way. Slender trees of varied species, a pond and a river, lawns, shrubs and flowers create an enchanting romantic fresco around it. Inside, the atmosphere changes. Design furniture and lighting, contemporary paintings and a play of colour boldly enliven the ancient features. Close to the capital but in the heart of nature, Château de Boutencourt promises a wonderful escape.
I'm a Parisian and I was looking for a place to live, a small family home in the countryside, not far from Paris, where the building would have the feel of a Parisian flat. It was in the Vexin Français, a region that is still protected and predominantly rural, that I fell under the spell of this house, situated five kilometres from a village of 200 with all amenities, including a station to take you to the capital. The property boasts a magnificent parkland, classified as a Remarkable Garden, a small lake and a charming river.
Set in the heart of vast wooded parkland, Château de Boutencourt embodies the timeless charm of neo-Louis XIII architecture. The residence features a symmetrical brick and stone facade, highlighted by high white shutters and a Mansard-style slate roof, typical of the Second Empire. Period structural features such as pedimented dormers, brick surrounds and vertical louvred shutters have been preserved and restored. The interior of the château has been refurbished to combine contemporary style with antique furniture, offering our guests comfort and elegance. A majestic driveway lined with topiaries leads to the main entrance and completes the peaceful, leafy, fully enclosed garden, ideal for nature and heritage lovers.
The house, located on the border between the Vexin Français and the Vexin Normand, dates back to 1865 and was once a hunting lodge belonging to a Napoleon III general. I moved here in 2016 and decorated it in a contemporary style while respecting the spirit of the place.
A bucolic atmosphere, "royal" peace in a charming residence with modern comforts, surrounded by vegetation, just an hour from Saint-Lazare station by TER. There are no neighbours or noise here, just wild ducks, pheasants and squirrels. Five bikes - four adult and one child - are available for family outings in the countryside. Two orchards on the property, with apple, plum, pear, mirabelle plum and cherry trees, mean you can pick fruit in season, make jam and press cider in the press. In summer, you can cool off in the river, which has a dedicated lawn on the bank.
In Gisors: the impressive fortified castle with its Templar legend, the twice-weekly market with local produce and a fishmonger supplied by fishermen from Dieppe, the "Fromagerie de l'Ours", the pastry chef, confectioner and master chocolatier Algave, the "Boucherie du centre" for its foie gras and "La fermette bio de l'Epte" for direct sales of organic vegetables. From Gisors, the multi-use path winds its way towards the Seine and Giverny, skirting the superb Epte valley, the former border between Normandy and the Kingdom of France. Along the river, valleys dotted with castles, typical villages and the light so dear to the Impressionists. The restaurant at the Château de Bertichères, in Chaumont-en-Vexin, combines authenticity and refinement with a cuisine based on fresh produce and inspired by the region’s riches. Golf, tennis and horse riding are all available.
The house can accommodate up to 20 people for working meetings and small seminars, either during the day or in residence. The living room, study, dining room and smoking room can be transformed into work areas.
