Like France, the Empordà shares the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, but its landscapes transport the imagination elsewhere. Here, in the hinterland, with its verdant curves, the region takes on a Tuscan feel; the "masia" itself is surrounded by a guard of cypress trees. But very quickly, the buildings remind you that Spain is indeed present, particularly in the artisans' expertise. Walls of desert sand stucco, centuries-old wooden doors, wicker roofs—the renovation has focused on transforming, improving, and enhancing the spaces in a spirit of simplicity elevated to a high degree of refinement. Stays here can be tailored to all desires and sizes, whether for families, small groups of friends, or large groups, allowing you to savour the charms and flavours of the region to your heart's content. Adelante!
Originally from Barcelona, I can reach the estate in just over an hour from my main residence. Nestled in the heart of the Empordà, between gentle hills and open horizons, this territory evokes a Catalan Tuscany, bathed in the luminous influence of the Costa Brava. The acquisition of the property was almost accidental. A simple weekend visit, with no intention of buying, was enough to make it clear that it was the right place for us. My wife, an interior designer, and I immediately recognised the estate's potential. Acquired in 2020, it underwent a year of careful restoration, respectful of its original character. The project is part of an investment as much as a transmission process. Between professional activity and attachment to the place, this estate embodies a select interlude, dedicated to the art of hospitality.
The estate's architecture immediately stands out in the Empordà landscape. Unlike traditional "masías," often built on several levels, this one comprises three single-story buildings. The ensemble is arranged around a central Mediterranean garden, where the swimming pool and pergola create an open-plan living space. The local Catalan architecture, evident in the simple volumes and original materials, engages in a dialogue with more distant influences. Mediterranean touches, Moroccan accents in certain details, Tuscan or Californian resonances: so many nuances that make up a unique identity.
It was originally a single property encompassing a house and stables on five hectares, dedicated to agricultural and equestrian activities. The estate was later divided up: the dwelling on one side, the outbuildings on the other. Gradually, the spaces were transformed. The paddocks disappeared, the stables gave way to residential uses. The former riding arena became a garden and swimming pool, retaining here and there discreet traces, such as a preserved low wall, a testament to its past. The current main building, erected in 2010, continues this tradition. Constructed from reclaimed materials, it extends the original spirit with precision, balancing reinterpretation and fidelity, giving the estate a new coherence.
The place is distinguished by a rare and unpretentious tranquillity. Here, luxury is discreet and understated. A house manager ensures a warm welcome and attentively guides guests throughout their stay. The house and its surroundings invite a simple and respectful relationship, attentive to both nature and its uses. An organic vegetable garden, available to guests, provides its harvest throughout the seasons. Nearby, the henhouse, home to a few hens, supplies fresh eggs daily. The two-hectare woodland provides peaceful picnic areas, bathed in soft light at the end of the day. The property includes a gym and a games room with a foosball table, and eight bicycles are available for guests' use.
In Bàscara, "El Pebre" serves simple local cuisine, while "La Barratina " in Orfes cultivates a friendly atmosphere with local dishes. Nearby, the markets of Torroella de Montgrí, on Mondays, and Bàscara, on Sundays, sell fresh produce and local specialties. In Empúries, gateway to Greco-Roman culture in the Iberian Peninsula, an archaeological site displays the remains of the ancient Emporiae, created at the beginning of the 1st century BC. The medieval streets of Girona and Figueres, Salvador Dalí's birthplace, extend this immersive experience. Finally, the Empordà region can also be explored through its golf courses, including Camiral Golf & Wellness, a leading name in Spain.
Comprising three independent, single-story houses and various living spaces, the estate offers is very flexible. It allows for easy alternation between work, meetings, and relaxation. Welcoming lounges, landscaped outdoor areas, and a peaceful atmosphere create an environment conducive to team cohesion. On-site accommodation is available in seven bedrooms.
