The mere mention of the Côte d'Azur immediately conjures up images of a jagged coastline plunging into clear water, lush gardens filled with exotic plants and trees brought back from distant continents, and villas and palaces built in the 19th century or early 20th century by the first wealthy lovers of this sun-drenched land, which was still very rural and wild at the time. From its vantage point overlooking the Bay of Antibes, Villa Cosima seems to bring together all these images at once. The dazzling white façades, the turquoise waters of the swimming pool, the terraces surrounded by balustrades where you can let your gaze wander into the distance, the palm and olive trees that shade the garden: this is the setting of dreams; a 1930s house whose renovation has preserved its original spirit while adding top-level amenities to meet the needs of a discerning clientèle.
I settled in Antibes because of my strong family ties and roots. My grandparents lived there and my children spent all their holidays there. We bought this villa around five years ago with the intention of preserving this special connection to the region, which is full of memories for us. We wanted to find a balance between city life, within walking distance of the city, with sea views, and the unique winter light of the Côte d'Azur. It was really the family feel, the beauty of the site in all seasons and the potential for a permanent home that convinced us to settle here.
The villa is typical of the Côte d'Azur and belongs to what is known as Niçoise architecture, with strong Italian influences. It features high ceilings, abundant light, symmetrical windows, a tiled gable roof and some original architectural details, including a remarkable painted ceiling and a beautiful coloured marble fireplace in the living room. The entire renovation has been designed with the same spirit of respect for the past and openness to light and the outdoors, while at the same time streamlining and modernising the space with contemporary touches. The garden has also been redesigned, blending Italian and Provençal features: olive trees, citrus fruits, cacti and euphorbias.
The villa was built in the 1930s, but we don’t have very much information about its history. It is an inspiring place, with its exceptional views over the old town of Antibes, the sea, the Alps and the Baie des Anges. This view has also been painted by Monet, Churchill and Nicolas de Staël. We worked on the interior architecture to maximise the light and ensure that every room benefited from this perspective.
We offer you a privileged setting. The 1 100 m² villa has an infinity pool heated from April to October, a view where you can enjoy the sunsets from the terrace and access to the sea via a cove 50 metres away. Everything is within walking distance, making for a truly Mediterranean lifestyle. A personalised welcome is provided by a steward who is available every day. Chefs can be brought in upon request to prepare meals, pilates, yoga or sports coaching classes can be arranged, a private chauffeur can be booked for station or airport transfers, boats can be hired and excursions can be organised. The property also has a boules pitch and an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and plancha.
The "Maison Bacon" restaurant, a chic address just two minutes from the villa. In Antibes, "Le Figuier Saint Esprit" by Michelin-starred chef and Maître Restaurateur Christian Morisset. For food with your feet in the sand, "La Petite Garoupe". For Italian/Mediterranean cuisine, try “Angelo's by Le Milano”. The bakery "Veziano", makes pissaladières and sweet chard pies, remarkable specialities from Nice. The Antibes Provençal market, held every morning in the Halle du cours Masséna, is the epitome of the South of France, with its flavours, colours and local producers. For walks around the villa: the Douaniers path and the Calvaire path with a magnificent view over the bay.
Particularly well-suited to spring and summer events, the villa can accommodate outdoor receptions only - terrace, swimming pool and beach, garden - and up to 40 guests for a seated dinner and 80 for a cocktail party. The indoor kitchen is available to caterers. The house can be rented out to accommodate families or service providers, with a capacity of up to 12 people depending on the configuration of the rooms.
