In the heart of a valley, the ancient medieval fortress had fallen into disrepair, slowly succumbing to the ravages of time. But one fine day, an unexpected encounter sparked a burst of life. Six years later, having been restored with the utmost care, the chateau is embarking on a new chapter in its long history. From the dovecote and greenhouse to the gardens and inner courtyard, it has retained its charm, whilst being equipped with everything needed to make its guests’ days and nights more comfortable and enjoyable, whatever the reason for their visit. Just an hour from Paris, amidst peaceful and bountiful countryside, creativity and heritage have found an inspiring haven here.
We bought the house in April 2026. Located on the other side of the medieval walls, and listed as a historic monument, it had been familiar to us ever since we bought the chateau in 2020. Bringing these two historically connected buildings together and welcoming guests here is part of our project. We first discovered Paley back when we were looking to make a change of scenery, to get closer to nature and to our families. A message passed on by relatives led us to the chateau. The visit proved decisive, despite the scale of the work to be undertaken. In the Lunain Valley, we found a place where we could bring our worlds together: the arts and plants for my wife, and video games and fantasy for me. We wanted to breathe new life into it and open it up to others. Paley has thus become our home and a project centred on creativity and sharing.
La Demeure des Remparts is a large, detached stone house, bordered by the chateau’s medieval walls. It offers 270 m² of space spread over two floors, including a large living room and dining room combined into a single 70 m² space. Its fireplaces, spacious rooms and tree-lined garden give it the feel of a country house where large groups can gather. You can see the chateau’s imposing dovecote from the swimming pool. Its location places the house within a complex that bears the marks of several centuries of change: a medieval enclosure, a square tower, a dovecote and a main building that was remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries. The walls and the dovecote have been listed as a Historic Monuments since 1987.
Once part of the chateau, the house was separated from it when it was sold in 1974, a sale which also divided the grounds. Its acquisition enabled us to bring the estate together, restore the continuity of the grounds and increase our accommodation capacity. The chateau dates back to the 12th century, when a fortress guarded the Lunain Pass. Rebuilt in the 15th century following the Hundred Years’ War, it underwent a series of alterations over the centuries. After its purchase. we discovered that Pierre Amer, the former lord of Paley, was one of my ancestors. Since 2020, we have been gradually restoring the estate and hosting artists, creatives and cultural events there. Our ambition is to make Paley a bastion of creativity and imagination, exploring the links between the physical and the virtual, particularly through video games and immersive storytelling.
We offer a large detached house with a private garden and swimming pool, in the heart of the historic Paley estate, one hour from Paris. With room for 15 people, it is ideal for holidays with family or friends, as well as for creative projects. Admission to the grounds and the chateau courtyard also gives guests the chance to explore the heritage sites that are open during your stay. As we live nearby, we love welcoming our guests, telling them about the history of the place and sharing the adventure of preserving it. Paley is a living estate. We organise residencies and cultural events there, bringing together artists, musicians, actors and creators. Our project brings together heritage, the arts, video games and immersive storytelling. The house therefore offers the opportunity to explore the estate or to work on a creative project whilst staying there.
Paley is a great place to start if you want to combine fine dining, walks in the countryside and cultural discoveries. In Nemours, we recommend the chateau-museum and “Le Picardeau”, an Italian restaurant on the banks of the Loing run by Claudia Squitieri, Claudia Cardinale’s daughter. The “Brasserie Ziegler” in Nanteau-sur-Lunain offers visitors the chance to discover LUNA’in craft beers, whilst the “Tuilerie de Bezanleu” in Treuzy-Levelay showcases another aspect of the local heritage. We also love the artists’ villages of Bourron-Marlotte and Moret-sur-Loing. If you fancy a breath of fresh air, the paths through the Lunain Valley, the banks of the Loing and the Forest of Fontainebleau offer plenty of ideas for walks. You can also explore the Loing by canoe from Grez-sur-Loing.
Surrounded by medieval walls, the chateau comprises a dovecote, a three-hectare listed woodand a three-tiered inner courtyard, all of which are listed as Historic Monuments. The courtyard forms a veritable open-air stage, ideal for private receptions and cultural events: concerts, theatre performances, artistic performances, readings and even a Christmas market. La Maison des Remparts completes the complex, offering accommodation for 15 people.

The venue hosts artists-in-residence, including visual artists, musicians and designers. The Paley Chateau walls provide an ideal setting for imagination and artistic creation, whether live, hands-on or digital.
Trained in fine arts and a floral designer, the owner – who is passionate about the arts and plants – runs workshops on floral arrangement and traditional craft skills.
The chateau organises immersive stays dedicated to tabletop role-playing games, inspired by the Anglo-Saxon concept “D&D in a Castle”. Participants take part in an ongoing adventure, spread over several sessions with the same group of players and recurring characters. The entire stay is organised from start to finish, from meals prepared by a chef to the selection of a game master, chosen to suit the desired theme.
