A ‘Touquettoise’ house and its 1,200-m² tree-filled garden,
in Touquet-Paris-Plage, 2 hours from Paris
Touquet-Paris-Plage, PAS-DE-CALAIS north 62520 FR

Location

This property is located in the Pas-de-Calais area in Touquet-Paris-Plage. In 1837, Alphonse Daloz, a Parisian notary, purchased the wooded plains of Cucq and Trépied. In 1855, with his son-in-law Charles Louis Rigaux, they planted the first maritime pines to stabilise the dunes, choosing this tree type thanks to its rapid growth and tolerance of arid environments. In 1858, Daloz and Rigaux divided the estate between them, with the former acquiring 1,250 hectares, which is equivalent to the current territory of the municipality of Le Touquet, while the latter formed the Stella estate. Le Touquet-Paris-Plage is nicknamed the ‘pearl of the Opal Coast’ and is today a renowned seaside resort. Its typically 1930s, Anglo-Norman style architecture has shaped its identity and the town has retained a certain taste for the French way of life, with local produce markets, art galleries, a Michelin-star restaurant, plush hotels and luxury boutiques. The Pianos Folies classical music festival attracts internationally renowned artists to the area each month of May. The property is situated near to a natural area boasting 12 kilometres of fine sandy beaches as well as chains of natural dunes, listed as French natural heritage and a Natura 2000 site. The Touquet Golf Resort is visible from the house, as are the equestrian centre and tennis club, while shops and services can be reached with ease. Lille is 2 hours away by car and Paris can be reached in 2 hours by train.

Description

The house, which boasts an appearance typical of the Touquet style, boasting traditional small windows with small framed panes dotting the facade, looms into view at the end of an avenue lined by tall trees that runs through the forest. The Art Deco style decorative features are in keeping with the Anglo-Norman style of the building, characterised by the presence of half-timbering on the edifice’s upper part. An outbuilding in a similar style to the main residence can be found at the bottom of the garden, which has a surface of approximately 1,200 m² and surrounds the buildings. A wide, white painted concrete stoop supported by an imposing pillar sets the tone and leads to the entrance door.

The ground floor

It is made up of three living spaces: a first lounge boasting an imposing, open-hearth, red brick fireplace topped by a wooden staircase with Art Deco inspired balusters, an office and then a second lounge, bathed in light through the many windows looking out onto the garden. The light-coloured walls on this level enhance the feeling of brightness and emphasize the interior architectural features. A fitted kitchen equipped with cupboards and bathed in light through a wide, four-panelled window opens out onto the garden.

The first floor

At the top of the main staircase, the wide landing leads to three bedrooms, one of which boasts an en suite shower room and another of which possesses a washbasin. A bathroom and a lavatory complete this level. All the rooms boast wood stripped flooring as well as large windows through which light streams.

The second floor

It is made up of two bedrooms with wood stripped flooring, a bathroom, a lavatory and two storage spaces.

The outbuilding

The facade of this large, separate, two-storey construction is punctuated by many windows with white windowpane lattices. The ground floor is made up of a large living room with a kitchen area, plus a shower room and lavatory. The upper floor contains a bedroom with dual oriented wardrobe space, a shower room and a lavatory.

The garden

Its approximately 1,200-m² surface is generously filled with trees, especially to the rear of the residence. Between the house and the lawn, there is a vast patio.

Our opinion

This elegant residence boasts an Art deco façade and a modern interior layout, with open-plan spaces radiating out from a huge living room. Its surface area makes it unique, in a countryside location, far from the hustle and bustle of the Touquet-Paris-Plage seafront. The dunes are only a short walk from the property and walks among the sparse beach grass on top of the white sandy dunes are a luxury that it is possible to enjoy every day. The residence is suitably sized to comfortably welcome family and friends, with the possibility of moving in immediately. Those of sporting nature will be able to enjoy sand yachting on the beaches; the less bold can content themselves with the whirlpool baths of the renowned spa centre, while those of a more contemplative character can take advantage of the wide patio leading onto the garden, sheltered from view, in total peace and quiet, listening to the music of Maurice Ravel. It is a location of dreams made reality.
