Description
The house
The ground floor
A first entrance door leads straight into a lounge and dining room that connect to each other. These spaces are separated by a glazed double door with small panes. The flooring is recent. Ochre tiles cover the floors. The lounge has an open-hearth Louis XVI style marble fireplace and the dining area has a grey fireplace with mouldings and an insert. You can reach the east wing from the dining room. The main entrance door is crowned with a porch canopy with flat tiles. Through this door, you step into a space with a fitted kitchen, a scullery, a separate lavatory and a utility room that could be turned into a bedroom. Between the kitchen and the utility room, a wooden staircase leads up to the first floor. The west wing houses a large workshop and a garage, as well as a cellar and a woodstore.
The first floor
The main quarter-turn staircase links the dining room to a landing tiled with old terracotta tiles. A stained-glass window and a roof window bathe this space in natural light. The landing connects to a shower room and to two bedrooms, one of which currently serves as a linen room. At the end of the east wing, beyond the point where the second staircase arrives, there is a third bedroom, beside a walk-in wardrobe and a lavatory. A long corridor with a floor of old terracotta tiles connects to a fourth bedroom. This corridor includes storage spaces. It then connects to a fifth bedroom with a 50m² floor area, beneath exposed roof beams. The latter bedroom has been turned into an office. It is filled with natural light from two large roof windows, a glazed door and a small window. It adjoins a small walk-in wardrobe, a lavatory and a bathroom with a bath and shower.
The garden
A stone wall, partly crowned with a black iron fence, encloses the garden, which covers around 140m². The garden lies in the shade of a laurel, a juniper and a small Mexican orange blossom. Rose bushes, wisteria and euonymus shrubs bloom in spring and summer.
Our opinion
This delightful home is nestled close to one of the largest forests in the Île-de-France region that extends around Paris. The charming 18th-century dwelling is steeped in history, which you can see in its rooms and building materials. Joining together several buildings created a house well suited to family life or to work. The calm of the hamlet, which is set back from bustle but certainly not isolated, offers the perfect combination: closeness to Paris, which you can easily reach every day, and a peaceful day-to-day lifestyle in a truly bucolic setting. The walled garden, with its old shrubs and trees, extends the house outside and offers an outdoor haven with absolute privacy and that changes with the passing of the seasons. In short, this splendid property is an enchanting place of fine balance, not far from the French capital.
