I am originally from Vieux-Mareuil. I even got married in this chateau and my children are very attached to it. This corner of Périgord also holds a very special place in our hearts.
The site features troglodyte vestiges and the remains of an old defensive device. The large dwelling is an old Renaissance building built on medieval remains. The south face was altered during the 19th century, however the stones tell us much about the original architecture which included the staircase tower. The smaller dwelling was built at the end of the 17th century and has a watchtower whose base is reminiscent of those at Hautefort and Excideuil, as well as the molded windows and skillfully joined doors with rough edges. The medieval-looking tower dates from this period and a room has been fitted out inside the rampart walk which offers a 360° view of the surrounding countryside.
A first building, the north house, was flanked by a staircase tower and built towards the end of the 15th century. Major expansion works were undertaken in the 16th and 17th centuries: the construction of a square tower topped with machicolations; the construction of a second dwelling (the south wing); the installation of buildings to the east closing the access to the house. After this work, a chapel with painted decoration and a large pavilion connecting the north house to the square tower were added to the wing. Significant destruction took place after 1824. The chateau was transformed into a hotel-restaurant in the 1980s and during our wedding in 1993, we spent our wedding night here. In 2010, it was for sale and my husband bought it for me as a present. The chateau has been listed in the inventory of historic monuments since 2009.

The Deux Abbesses en Vert stud farm is great for refreshments during which Laurence, passionate about Arab horses, will introduce you to his breeding and grooming methods. Argentine is worth a visit not for its tango, but for the originality of the church's stained glass windows. Enjoy a hike and discover the confidential site of Cluzeaux at the edge of the cliff on the border of the Dordogne and Charente. Saint-Pardoux is known for the Château de Beauregard and the troglodyte remains below the small Romanesque church. The Tour Blanche animal park, the Ferme de Lafayas where you can attend a foie gras tasting and stroke ostriches, and the Moulin de Rochereuil (a walnut oil mill dating back to the 12th century which is still in operation) are also nearby. Last but not least is Brantôme, where you can stroll through the narrow streets and discover the abbey, the Jardin des Moines and the angled bridge before wowing your taste buds on the terrace of the Moulin de l'Abbaye.
The Château de Chanet and its estate can host weddings and receptions for up to one hundred guests. The entire estate can be privatised: two prestigious rooms; the inner courtyard for a dinner; a wooded area, a rose garden, a terrace for cocktails; esplanades for the secular ceremony; a pool for brunch the next day. Full privatisation of the chateau to accommodate guests is also possible (seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, three lounges, a large fitted kitchen, dining room) with a concierge service before and during the stay. Parking is available.
